I don't think it is right to call it a recall, formally it is a "voluntary replacement". A recall implies there are dangerous or operational flaws that significantly affect the functionality of the item, a malfunction of one in 10000 is simply below par for Glock.

I know. Semantics.

I don't agree with you. All recalls are voluntary. Some are just more serious than others. Glock pulls this shit because of the "perfection" thing.

If you decide it's not a big deal and don't make the change and your Glock fails at the wrong time it will have become a big deal.

My Gen4 19 is flawless with the original 03 RSA. Mostly a bunch of limp wristed n00bs bitching. I did however get the new spring for a backup since it was free.

I don't agree with you. All recalls are voluntary.

Not necessarily, if they pose a significant threat to health or well-being, they can also be mandated by pretty much any agency with three initials. Painting with a broad brush there!

All recalls are voluntary.  The three letter agencies don't come and take them from you by force (I'd like to see some proof of this is you have any).  Watch your wide brushes there (I'll throw my two posts with no facts up against your two posts with no facts).  ;)

Hmm....everytime I read about 4th Gen problems I no longer have the desire to buy one.  I think I'll wait a few years until the kinks seem to have been worked out.  All of my Gen 3 guns have been flawless from the start.  When I read about Oakland PD pulling all of their Gen 4 G22's that really raised an eyebrow with me.

I have about 350 rounds through my Gen4 G17, no issues with original RSA. I will call anyway to get the fixed RSA.

Sometimes your closer to having problems than you think.  This is a good video that all of you 4th Gen Glock guys should watch.  Not trying to be chicken little here cuz I think Glocks suck (they're ugly, they feel weird, they run really well most of the time, they're ugly and stupid) but don't want to see anyone at the shit end of the stick in a critical moment.

Sounds like, if the statement made in the video about GLOCK continuing to make both the Gen 3 and Gen 4 side by side, they don't expect the Gen 4 to take off and are expecting the Gen 4 to fail in the long run.

Sooooo NOT True!

The gen 4 was an upgrade mainly to move some of the higher pressure caliber rounds into a better platform.  The .40 S&W for instance was really beating up the Gen 3's in the long run.  What I mean by long run is simply high number round counts, 80,000 and up.
That's a boat load of rounds.  I now have a Gen 4 22, it runs great and does handle the recoil better.
Yes, I agree Glocks are ugly... They're not a colt 1911 by any means.  But for what they were designed to do, they're at the top of their class.

The RSA is not the problem in the Gen 4 9mm platform, it is the ejector.  Glock is beginning to replace them already.  I saw one recently that had been sent back to Smyrna for weak/erratic ejection.  It returned with the new style ejector and I watched the owner fire 800+ rounds over a couple of days with boring Glock reliability.

Kind of off  topic, but is the Glock 1911 a true "maybe" thing?  Lots of rumors and stuff in the wind but just curious if anybody has heard anything real.

I've heard that one too. There's just no way, doesn't make sense, Glock would have heavy duty tooling up for such a project, or would just rebadge someone else's 1911. I can't see them doing it.

Put my new guide rod in and had 5 shells out of 100 hit me in the same exact spot on my forehead and had one failure. Called Glock and I'm sending it back to get a new ejector put in.

There are other better threads, just what I found quickly.

as for the brass hitting you in the face, I get that every once in a while when shooting my gen 3.
it's usually related to grip or when I transition.
5 out of 100 doesn't seem too bad, if its isolated.
tuning the ejector is never a bad idea though.

I wanted to update on my gen 4. I sent it back to Glock for a new ejector. It has been 100% since the new guide rod and new ejector. No brass to the face and no failures so far.

No problems with my Gen 4 G23, very happy with it. Of course I know it seems the 9mms have more issues.

I did take advantage of the RSA upgrade program (thanks again for the link, Nomad!) but honestly didn't have any problem with the old RSA. I haven't sent back the old RSA because I'm still not sure which one I like better...  ;D

As far as sending the pistol to Glock for a new ejector, extractor and trigger bar, I can wait until the new parts are available. No doubt someone who was having problems should send the gun to Glock or have a Glock armorer update it.
