Ah, Modesto.  Whatta' dump! The misses and I graduated from Chico State.  Northern CA has a lot going for it, well, ummm...nevermind.  I like the scenery in some parts of Northern CA.  That's about it!

Thanks again for all of the info everyone! I left Cali on Thurs and drove through the night. Got to my rental in Meridian on Friday morning. So far I love it here. I'm amazed at how friendly people are. I was busy all day on Friday unpacking and settling in. Finally had some free time today. Went by SawTac and visited Jeff. Nice shop and nice people working there. Can't wait til I get my Idaho DL so I can start some gun related shopping!

Heck, I thought this was my post at first, until I saw your name on it     I'm not sure when you are moving, but I bet me and you will be packing our bags and moving East around the same time..  Anyway, I am escaping Oregon and you, California..  My sentiments are very close to yours.  I hope you have a good move..    

Cali CCWs are not easy to come by, you're lucky just to get one.  Both Oregon and Cali have stupid policies about CCWs and will only recognize them in the state.  I may plead with Sheriff Gordon in Washington county to give me a permit, as the main location of my business is located in PDX area.  He gave me an out-of-state Oregon permit when I lived in Washington a while back.  I may have to take that trip to Grant County.  Good luck getting an out-of-state CCW for Cali.  

Been to the lovely town of Stockton.  Soon as we got off the freeway we saw bunch of homeboys sitting on the street corner pounding 40s and a strung out, toothless crackhead came up to us begging for money.  Man, I never seen such a sketchy place.  I've been all over LA area and Stockton still leaves a funny feeling in my gut.

Hey, I thought it was almost impossible to get a ccw in cali, then my brother went and did it, so I know it is possible. He tells me it depends on the county you live in. He lives in the town of Bishop, an upscale place.

Hey AR10ER, I will only help change it for the better.  That is, bring in more guns and a conservative, freedom-loving attitude that will help benefit the people of Idaho.  Also, I hope by my contribution, that I can help contribute to scaring off the liberals and others who want to turn Idaho into a toilet like California, and yes, sadly my home state of ORegon   


BTW... Many Oregonians are like Idahoan people in many ways.  It is just a small area of the state that controls the politics and screws up the greatness of the state of Oregon for the rest of us.  Basically, I have seen such an amazing state deteriorate due to liberal outsiders and their draconian, socialist, freedom-hating policies.  Basically, I am moving away from Oregon to Idaho, because Idaho reminds more of what Oregon once was.  Many of the conservative,  rational and open-minded Oregonians are jumping ship to Idaho to escape the onslaught. 

This is not directed to you, han, but is mainly Californians who screwed up our state.  There are also a lot of great Californians who want to escape the madness and we should support them.  It is good to know that the better Californians decided to go to Idaho and all the jerky , liberal Californians came to Oregon.  Not all Californians are bad, but the ones who came to Oregon totally messed our state up, as they were some of the most liberal types who thought Portland would be their liberal utopian haven of socialism where they could reap all the benefits that the locals worked so many years to make possible.  Now they are raping the state of all its dignity and helping put us in financial ruin, so many people are wanting to jump ship, like myself.  Heck, even the gay ped0phile mayor of Portland is doing everything in his power to screw up the city and ban what weapons he can.  Can you believe Bear Pepper spray is illegal in Portland?  Sam Adams is a real schmuck.  I think the only tax we need can help pay for his one-way ticket to San Francisco, where he can spread all his pestilence in a state that is beyond hope.

Anyway, I hope I will be welcomed.. And I hope Hans is too..   

Being an Oregonian most my life, I will tell you that I am more inspired than anyone to prevent Idaho from going down the slippery slope of socialism and becoming a jobless, lazy welfare dependent state that ORegon has become.  More and more criminals from California and other places are coming to Oregon and taking advantage of its system of political correctness and support to losers who enjoy sucking off of the system, which means sucking off of hard-working folks like me who struggle to make a living while these people get high and wasted and get their rent and food paid by the government, aka me and others like me who work.

Just from reading your posts, I don't think you will be one of the problem children we have had move here. I have heard more than a few ex-cali people say, "there ought to be a law", and I ask them why they left cali, and they will say, "it has become a joke, and a dump, with all of the ignorant laws", and then I point out to them, "then why are you trying to do the same thing here?" Most just look at me like I have two heads, a few get it though.

Been here since the 16th and am loving every minute of it so far!  The hospitality everyone has shown me so far has been really nice.  Although the lady at Ada Sheriff's Concealed Weapons unit did jib me a bit for wearing a Giants t-shirt hahaa....  I'm the least "sterotypical Californian" you'll come across but I'm not giving up my team!  You'll have to come out and shoot some matches when you get here.  Look forward to meeting you sir.

Han, I am glad you are enjoying living there.   There are so many good Californians who have left the state.. Like I said, the worst of Californians came to Oregon.  I never judge somebody where they are from, but by how they think and act.  It just seems that a lot of the bad elements in the state of Oregon all have came from one place.  I'm sure Idaho is lucky to have you.

My father grew up in California by the way, back when California was a great place to live.  It is heart breaking when he tells me the stories of how the place went to h*ll in the last few decades.  I moved to Washington then Oregon when I was young so never really remember much about the "Golden State" except that it wasn't that golden.  Use to have helicopters fly over our backyard at 2AM with spotlights, heard gun shots at night, etc.  I remember the smog was horrible and I had lung problems.  It has only gotten worse there.   The cost of living is outrageous for the ghetto conditions.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting you as well sometime.   I will be so happy once the move is over.

Sounds like every state that I have ever lived in or traveled through, including Idaho. The "Treasure Valley" is generally viewed in a negative light by the rest of Idaho. It has the political clout to control what goes on in the entire state. It is also the most liberal area in the state.

You'll find that Idahoans are friendly, and will generally treat you the same way you treat them - the Golden Rule certainly applies here.

I was born and raised here, and have lived in Idaho 47 out 51 years.  Wouldn't live anywhere else, that's for sure!

One question I have.. what are some good trails to go hiking on? I just found a trail above some old penitentiary that leads up to a big cross. That was pretty cool. Any others like that?

Hey, I saw a really good hiking trail system around the Bogus Basin area.  You really should check it out.  And, if you haven't been to the Sawtooths yet, you really need to go.

Hey Derp.  I'm leaving Oregon in 12 days, hooray!  Just packing up the house and getting ready to move..  You know how much fun that is.  I was only in PA for the first 6 months of my life.  I was too young to remember it, but my parents told me the stories.  Generally, I heard Philadelphia wasn't the nicest of places, even back in the 70s when my parents were there.  However, I always wanted to see Amish country and the Poconos.  I will say though the East Coast is too flat for my tastes.  I sure would miss my mountains.  

If you haven't seen the Sawtooths you are going to be utterly shocked.  Imagine Mount Hood size peaks all next to each other and more jagged and rugged.  The beauty of the mountains in Idaho blows me away.  If I had it my way, I would just live in those mountains and only come down for supplies once in a while.

Perhaps, being Ex-Oregonians, we can appreciate Idaho even more than some others.  I look forward to meeting you sometime, along with all the others here.  

P.S. Just tell everyone Idaho only has potatoes, so nobody else will come here..  I tell people, I'm moving to Idaho, and they say "ah, good potatoes".  Let's just keep it that way.. Our secret..

I know what you mean about the mountains over there. I lived in Hershey which has the Appalachian mountains, but look mostly like hills to us in the Northwest. The Poconos would have been pretty awesome to see, sadly I kept the sightseeing mainly to seeing other cities and places like NYC, Niagara falls, the Amish, the Atlantic Ocean, and various other places.

When I told people I was moving to Boise, everyone told me to enjoy the potatoes and to start liking the colors blue and orange lol.
