Moving to Idaho, a few questions.
« on: September 07, 2011, 08:28:45 PM »
Hi all.  After years of thinking about it, I've finally pulled the trigger and will be moving to Free America.  I took a job with the state and will be moving to Meridian next week.  I'm looking forward to moving to a beautiful state, not getting raped on vehicle registration fees, making some new friends, living among gun-friendly people, and finally living in a place where the terms "Assault Weapon Ban" and "Hi-Cap Mag Ban" don't exist.

Now, a few quick questions....

-how do I become a site supporter?  I plan on spending some time on this site and would like to help contribute.

-I have to turn in my California CCW when I leave Cali.  I have a valid Nevada CCW.  I plan getting my Idaho DL, vehicle registration, and submitting my app for a Idaho CCW the week after I move.  While I'm waiting for that to process, can I legally carry on my Nevada permit since Idaho recognizes all other state's permits?

-can anyone recommend a good barber in Meridian?

-where are the good gunshops?

-where can I get a 870 parkerized, locally?

-which ranges do you guys prefer to shoot at?

-I really enjoy shooting IDPA, does Parma or Nampa have the better IDPA club?

-can anyone recommend a good gym in Meridian?  I know there a few in Meridian, just wondering which ones to avoid.

-are private party gun sales a cash and carry face to face, no dealer required kind of deal?  I have two guns I'm looking at selling which is why I ask.

Thanks in advance for any info.  I'm very excited about the move.   :)

Barber shop: http://www.fredsreelbarbershop.biz/

I just moved to Boise last November, and every time I go into Meridian, I find something cool.

Awesome!  Thank you!  Is that where you go for a haircut, if so which of those four do you recommend?

quite a few gyms in meridian, can't say i've heard bad about any of them. Which side are you going to be living on, might help narrow it down.

Some people are like Slinkies - not really good for anything, but you can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Welcome to the site and Idaho. You will love meridian and the treasure valley, great people and very firearm friendly.

as for the parkerized 870, I would check with RK gunsmithing, they are on this site and i have gone to them for everything in the last few years and I have never been disappointed with their service.

you won't be to far from Idaho athletic club..the original one...it's an older gym but i've been there with friends and always found it pretty nice. There are a few others close by, but i don't know anything about them.

and chinden is pronounced chin (as in jaw) den not shinden  ;D

in any of the real gyms out here are nice friendly environments, i have been to most. the only ones i dont like are the anytime fitness/ 24 hour fitness places those people are cranky. but any of the ymca's, idaho athletic centers, or even golds gyms are great and they each fill their own niche so depends on what you want in a gym.

HAN-CHOLO -"-I have to turn in my California CCW when I leave Cali."

Is there a Calif. law that states you have to turn in your Calif. CCW??

I moved here almost 14 years ago and I was not required -- at that time -- to turn in my Calif. CCW.

Welcome to Idaho.  We really have been pleased to live here.

Thanks for the welcome.  There isn't anything that allows non-residents to keep a Cali CCW.  You legally have to be a CA resident to the best of my knowledge and what I've researched.  No biggie, I'll play by the rules.

I must have misunderstood.  I thought you meant that you had to physically turn in your CCW to a Calif. police agency if you moved from the State.

I knew a Calif. non-resident could not get a CCW, and that Calif. refused to honor other States' CCWs.

Although mine expired in 2000, I still have it somewhere in a drawer.

Best of luck.  Hope you have a very uneventful move to Idaho.

Thanks sir!  Mine was issued a bit differently, wasn't a resident in the city that issued it.  I worked for the agency that issued it, and got it for being a employee (there's a clause that allows Chief's and Sheriff's to issue to any of their full time non-sworn staff) and now that I'm no longer working for them I have two weeks to turn it in.

first off, I dig the screen name.  Second, where in Cali you coming from?  I came to the free part of America four years ago from the Antelope Valley.  I couldn't pack my shit fast enough.  You're going to love it here!

Hahaha....yea, some people get the name, others don't.  I'm fleeing from the northern central valley, Stockton/Modesto area.  I'm really excited to move, all of my Idaho friends keep telling me I'm going to love it.  Based on the two trips I've taken up there I'd have to agree.

And I'm a huge fan of cake and ice cream!

I love Pixie, she's just all kinds of sexy.  I stopped watching LA Ink after Kat fired her.

I second Fred's Barber shop. All of the guys are great, but I usually try to get Fred. Great environment, leave any political correctness at the door.

Cali is a resident only CCW state correct?
Idaho recognizes all other state's CCWs so you are fine with NV permit.
Idaho athletic club is awesome and very reasonably priced.
