Wild Wheat in Boise
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:42:59 PM »
Thought this might be fun, or a lesson for the kids about foraging.
On the corner of Lake Hazel and Valley Heights there is a field where houses were going to be erected before the market fell out in 08.
Well, this use to be farm land, and there is wheat growing along the edges of the property.
There is no irrigation there, so the wheat must be somewhat drought resistant.
I thought this might be fun if someone wants to make bread from scratch, or as a leaning experience for the kids.
The stalks also make a nice decoration ;D

Maybe someone will chime in with a better way to harvest the stuff, my Machete made more work for me then just breaking off the tops.

Ya, ummmm...... I think I'd freak out the neighbors if I use a scythe.
I figured it was bad enough with the machete ;D
I saw somewhere that a small pruning hook could be used.
I guess I could use a weed whacker ;)

The scythe would be a good thing to have when the SHTF.
