Reloading class @ Cliffs GSR.
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:13:27 PM »
Taking the reloading class that Cliff offers at his business.  Class is this upcoming Saturday at 0800 for any of those interested in a beginners reloading class.  Class fees are $50 and as stated before starts at 0800 til 1200.  Reason for the plug is he requires a minimum of 4 students to a class. Currently there are two of us signed up and would like to see a few more so the class isn't cancelled and rescheduled. Hope to see some of you there.

I was in at Cliff's today and heard that the gentleman who teaches the reloading class is having some health issues and the class on this Saturday will be canceled.

What type of reloading where you looking to get in to, just the basic stuff or more advanced type precision-accuracy / high volume – competition reloading?

I have some very basic knowledge of reloading and I will help answer any question I can or we have some very knowledgeable members here at Boise Shooters and I’m sure someone would be willing to walk you through the process over the interwebs.

JMack is FOS, he has turned volume reloading into a precision operation. Really I think that you'd be waisting your $50 at Cliff's. There are plenty of us here that are willing and able to do one on one instruction with you for nuthin, myself included.

All of these guys have helped me a ton in regards to reloading.
J mack, and FJ40mojo both have seen me through some issues along the way.
Just when I think I have it all figured out... A new issue springs up. There are always helpful people right here on the forum to straighten me out.

I will say that having someone show you on your own setup and confirm that everything is correct will give you more confidence. Nothing quite like that anxiety right before you touch off your first self made round...
If you trust your process and trust your ammo, it makes pulling the trigger correctly much easier!

I currently have myself a Lee single stage that I have been doing .223 and was going to start loading .45.  I find myself really interested in the shooting sports, so eventually I will be reloading for competition.  The Dillon 550b is now on my wish list, just need to save the pennies.  I find out if the class is cancelled tomorrow and if so, guess I'll be PM'ing one or two of ya.

I'd look at saving a few more pennies and going with the 650.  I think you'll be glad you did.

You are way ahead of the curve if you started with a bottle neck cartridge and can say things are going pretty good.
Straight wall pistol cases are going to be a walk in the park.
A few things that come to mind when loading pistol ammo that is different from the rifle.
1)   It is possible to unknowingly double charge a round like the .45ACP and create a dangerous situation for yourself and others around you. Always keep this in the back of your mind when charging your cases and minimize the distractions.
2)   I’m not normally a big fan of Lee dies but the Lee factory crimp die is the bee’s knees when loading ammo for a simiauto.
3)   I bell the mouth of my pistol cases a bit more now than when I first started loading pistol, if you find yourself trying to balance the bullet on top of the case instead of setting it into the case as you raise it up into the bullet seating die, bell it a bit more.
4)   There is another gentleman on the forum “RGinIdaho” that I would consider one of the most knowledgeable guys on reloading around here. If I were going to try to attend a reloading class I would try to persuade FJ40mojo or RGinIdaho to teach it.

Plus one for the 650. The HMIFC talked briefly about a group buy, it might be time to ask him about this again.

Good luck!

Just called Cliff's, yep class is canceled due to the guy being in the hospital. Oh, well guess I'll get my money back and use it to buy some beer for trade.  PM me if you have time and are willing to go over a few things.
