Remington 700
« on: August 22, 2011, 06:40:16 PM »
Did anybody watch that report on the Remington 700 on MSNBC last night?  About the Border Officers having them AD when they bump the bolt or flip the safety (finger off trigger - they actually showed it a bunch of times) and then they went on to say that the Marine Corps through the Freedom Of Information Act released that 2 in 20 rifles had this same problem?  It, the rifle, would just go off for no reason at all, and there were many, many Police Departments stating the same thing.  Wow, had no idea that this was a big problem, seems like tons of departments carried the 700...have any of you guys had problems with them?

This site seems to have a pretty decent history of the problem, lawsuits, and judgements, and corrections that Rem has made to the trigger design: www.drinnonlaw.com/Texas-Defective-Remington700.php

Here's Remington's response from 2010.

Are you really going to believe MSNBC for anything?
Isn't that scrun Rachel Maddow on that channel?

Are you refering to the same Rem700 the USMC has been using since the 1960's?
The same rifle the US Army has deployed since 1984?

ANYONE HERE HAD AN AD FROM A REM700?

I've shot 4 or 5,000 rounds in diffrent Rem700's.
Never had an AD

Also been around a ton of Rem700's never seen an AD.

Calling BS, they have been trotting out this story since the 1980's

Ditto, and I also have yet to have a single dangerous condition or malfunction. I remember seeing this nonsense a few years ago.

However, during trigger adjustment of the new Xmark, at one point it was at the condition where it could potentially slam fire if a live round was loaded. The solution was simple, turn the screw back to where it was before and start over. Now I have a 100% safe and crisp 2.5lb factory trigger.

Watch the video 9shooter posted. It is Remington's reply. No need to call BS. Remington already did it better than you guys can. ;)
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.
