Idaho trying to lure firearms manufacturers here
« on: August 13, 2011, 11:41:03 AM »
Not a bad article in the Statesman today (8-13-11) about trying to relocate firearm manufacturers here. Towards the end of the article Colt came across with a little sabre rattling about the micro stamping issue and should it pass they would think about leaving state.

The state has been talking the talk for a few years.  However, our experience was that very few municipalities were interested and many were hostile to the idea.

I read right up until they said one of the incentives were low or no taxes and then got pissed . The last thing we need is yet another big corporation to show up here and pay nothing in taxes for a decade and then move all their production overseas as soon as its convenient .

I have no problem whatsoever with companiess paying little-to-no taxes.  Taxes just increase the cost of production which increases the cost of goods.  Do you really think Rock River just absorbs that 11% exise tax?  What I don't like is specific companies getting special consideration while smaller ones don't.  Besides, there are plenty of regulatory parasites waiting around to leach every nickel and dime they can squeeze out of anyone who wants to step up and attempt to be productive.  No need to add taxes onto that.

Corporations don't pay taxes... the consumer does... it's built into the price of the goods or service they are selling as a part of the cost of doing business.

I'm with Farlo in that targeting specific companies with special tax breaks is wrong, why not just create a corporate tax free environment in the state... encourage the corporations to spend the money they save in hiring, producing and selling their product or services.
