I will be visiting the Boise area the following weekend and would like to check out the Parma Gun Range's 3-Gun shoot.  Unfortunately, because I will be taking a somewhat longer trip , I'm not going to bring my own rifle or shotgun with me.  I'd really like to see what some of the ranges are like in the Boise area and meet a few people there, so I thought attending the 3-Gun shoot in Parma sounded like a nice idea.  I talked with LuvMy45, who may or may not be able to attend, so if there is anyone else who knows they will be attending and can let me borrow the required guns for the shoot, I would really be appreciative.  I am rather a newbie to competitions and matches and this would be my first.  Some others suggested I come out and attend a match and I would be happy to do so.

I can supply my own ammo and handgun.  I have a S&W M&P 9mm I will be bringing.  If this is not sufficient let me know.  I assume the 3-gun is rifle, shotgun and pistol.  So, I would need to borrow someone's rifle and shotgun for the match.  If anyone thinks they can help me out I would appreciate it.  I have completed a Defensive Handgun I course at Oregon Firearms Academy and have multiple-CHLs, so I am a trustworthy person and well-rounded in gun safety.   That is, if anyone is worried about that.

Thanks for anyone who thinks they can help.

A handfull of us are caravanning to Idaho Falls the day before to shoot USPSA State match.
I'm sure we will make it back in time for the 3 gun and all plan too.
Your welcome to shoot my rifle or shotgun. I'm sure others willoffer to share as well.
I'm 6'4" and lefty. you may want a different shotgun...
Shotshell caddies or something come to mind. If you have a solution for shotshells, that would help you more than anything else.

I'm going to this, I don't know if we're splitting up into squads or whatever, but I have a 20" 870 Wingmaster with rifle sights and an open cylinder that you're welcome to borrow, and I have a 16" AR-15 with an Aimpoint Comp M3 and a 3x magnifier in a flip to side mount that you're also welcome to use as long as you're shooting factory ammunition.

Hi, thanks for your responses.

Jaggy, I don't have shotgun shell caddies, but can purchase some when in Bosie, if required.  I'm not really familiar with them and never been in a 3 Gun competition before.   I got fairly strong hands and I am a lefty with the long guns and a righty with the handguns.  I am left-eye dominate, yet right-handed, but I have to shoot left with rifles/shotguns.  I cannot even shoot right-handed with long guns, now as I was trained from the start with the left.  Maybe your setup will work?

Emathey, it sounds like you have two guns that would work fine for me.  Being left handed wouldn't pose any issues?  I've never had any issues shooting most guns left handed.  Every now and again a shell hits me, but not so common.  Both my ARs are setup for right-hand, yet I shoot them with the left without issue.   I can communicate with you in PM.

Left handed should be no issue.  These are the guns that I'm going to be competing with, I'm bringing another person who may or may not be borrowing them as well, but if we are all in the same squad (if we're splitting up into squads, I don't know) this shouldn't be an issue at all, as we can just swap in between stages.  There's nothing on my AR-15 that isn't set up for a lefty, with the exception of my BAD lever, but you can pretend it's not there.  You should be able to use everything just fine.  I can bring extra AR-15 magazines if you need them, the 870 feeds from a tube and I just dump shotgun shells into a dump pouch, so you're on your own there.  Just remember, factory ammunition only, I have a pile of factory steel ammunition you're welcome to use if you want to reimburse me for it if you prefer doing that.

No steel core or Bi metal.
We usually shoot at steel targets and we like to keep them hole free!

as for shotgun loading, a dump pouch will work, it just depends on how competitive you want to be.
Loading the shotgun is the slowest part of the match and can easily separate you from the pack (in a good or bad way...)

My shotgun is an 1187 with an ez-loader and a lefty oversize safety. The issue is the length of pull. Its long... Really long!
My rifle has ambi safety ambi mag dump, bad lever and burris tac30 1x4 optic with 200 yrd zero.

We will be squadding up, and I am posative that you will be able to borrow equipment if needed.

I appreciate both of you being willing to lend me equipment for the shoot.  I'll certainly supply my own ammo.  Would Federal XM193 be acceptable?  I do have XM855, but if steel core is out, then I will not bring those.  Also, I could go to Cabela's if needed to purchase the ammo before the match.  Just let me know what type of ammo you would like me to buy.

Emathey, if you prefer I use your steel cased ammo, I would be happy to reimburse you for the usage.  I do have lot of extra XM193 around, as well as some Prvi 223, which I thought would be sufficient.  Sorry for my ignorance about these matches, but how much ammo would you predict I would go through?  It would help me know how much to bring to the match.

It sounds like both of you have setups that could work.  I'm 5,9 with a wide frame, so Jaggy, maybe your shotgun would be a hard for me to handle, its hard for me to know.  I usually wear North Face convertible pants with lots of pockets.  I find I can store 100s of rounds of ammo in them.  If you don't think it would work, I can buy whatever type of ammo holders you think are necessary for the match.

As far as mags, I got a good number of P-Mags.  I don't see why I would need them.  Once again, my North Face pants and REI vest have lots of pockets, big ones.  I think I can fit 3, 30rd mags in each pocket.  But, I am open to getting any pouches or ammo loading tools needed.  This is all a good learning lesson for me.  I'm sure I Could use the gear down the road.

Sorry, for my ignorance about the matches.  I don't quite know how the squad system or groups work.  I'd be happy to work with either of you and appreciate your help.  Emathey, if you think your setup would suit my frame better, then I'd be happy to use what you have available.   It would be nice if I could talk with the person a few days before I come, because I don't exactly know where the match would be or how I would get into the range.  Some ranges are locked only to members, like my Tri-County range in Portland.  Sorry, I've never been to Boise before, so I might feel a bit lost.   Thanks for working with me  ;D.

you're in good hand, the gang at parma is very accommodating.
Round count is posted in the thread for the match in the 3gun section.
http://www.boiseshooters.com/index.php/topic,12951.msg82132.html#new

usually it is about 80 rounds of each.
Adios
TG
and 6 slugs. (so far)

I usually bring double to triple the round count. (in case I need to re-shoot a stage or miss...a bunch. Both have been known to happen.)
Mags are easy. Pmags fit great in back pockets.
Not too often I need more than 1 or 2 reloads with the rifle.
Of coarse we never know what Travis has up his sleeve until the day of the match.

Brass cased stuff would be more than fine, I just meant no handloads.

It sounds great.. I'm buying a new range bag from Midway, which I hope will help keep me more organized for the match.  If either of you don't mind, I'll send you a PM sometime before the match.  I guess I just would like to know where and when to meet the person who's guns I will be borrowing before the match.  Being that this is my first time in Boise, I also want to make sure I don't get myself lost or misjudge how long it takes to get to the range from where I will be staying.

I don't reload, so using my own handloads won't be an issue.  As far as shotgun ammo, what type should I get?  Would Slugs and Buckshot be the type of rounds being used?  Should I avoid purchasing low-recoil rounds?  I guess this depends on the shotgun I use.  You mention it is 80 rounds, so I assume that is 80 rounds of each type of ammo: rifle, shotgun and pistol?

80 of each is the minimum. I ussually bring 200 rifle 200 pistol and 100 shotgunn.
low recoil slugs are great and 7 1/2 birdshot is great. Most of us just use the cheap stuff from walmart or estates from cabelas/sportsmans.
the choke of the shotgun has more bearing than shot size in most cases.
