Which Glock?
« on: August 01, 2011, 11:46:06 PM »
I know, fire away, the 1911 guy is asking about a glock... I can take it.

If you could get any glock, which one and why? Pretend you have a magic coupon to get any glock you want delivered to your favorite FFL to take home, just because you can...

Which one and why?

If you have to have a "glock" I would say this one http://gunnuts.net/2011/07/13/lone-wolf-timberwolf/

Otherwise I like Springfield XD's for "those" kind of guns.

34/35 sell for the most...
I really like my 34, that said a 35 with a lone wolf coversion could fill a lot of gaps.
you have the USPSA Limited covered, IDPA CDA, covered.
34 would fill in production and SSP as well as a great 3 gun/ multigun platform.
Knowing you like your XDm, I stick with my original statement...

Depends on what you want to do with it.  IMO:

20 makes a nice trail gun; 29 if you like lighter weight. (SF models)
19 makes for cheap shooting, nice carry, and 9mm is what glocks seem to be best at.  26 is a close second.  (3rd gen)

Glock 19.  Sold most of my other Glocks and have only a G19 left.  After speculation, advice from people that have forgotten more than I have learned, they all suggest the G19 for size, shootability, etc.  For an all around gun for CCW, general use, ease of use, price of ammo, function and reliability, they all say G19.

I also have a G30 which is the double stack .45.  For the size and number of rounds, you can't go wrong.  Strangely I shoot it better than I do my 19.
Due to the actions of the offender...

If you're not intending to keep it,  I'd definitely go for a more popular model.  19s, are definitely popular.  There are a ton of police trade in 22s so I would shy away from that and 10mm, .45 GAP, etc.  Maybe a 34 26 or 33?

If you plan on hanging on to it, I imagine you'd want a 34 or 35, it was a general use gun I baaaa like a sheep and say a g19.  If it was my choice, I'd probably think about getting a 30.

I say G34 or G17.

Why? 'cause I already gots a G35, and the G19/23 are too small for my hand.

Either model would be fun in SSP or Production, and if that wasn't enough reason you can shoot it once a year at the Glocks Only Match.  Or shoot the match, then sell it.  Or keep it as a bedside, BOB, glovebox, or loaner gun.

But let me be the first to hypothetically say: Congrats on winning a gun!  You must have been the third person (before the match they saying that there were enough guns on the prize table for every third person to win one)... But i'm guessing you also shot well.  Nice!
Life is hard.  It's harder if you're stupid and can't shoot straight.

Glock G21SF . 13 rounds of .45ACP in a platform you don't mind throwing off a bridge in the middle of the night should the need arise

I have about 30 or so. My all-around favorite easily is the G19.

Kinda' like a crescent wrench---it does just about anything you would want a wrench--uh, I mean pistol to do, but none of the things it can do,   it can do perfectly.
And, BTW, I carried a G18, on and off duty for a handful of years.  Whilst being the ultimate in coolness, it rates way down the list in this particular thread.
(But it SURE was fun to shoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I have a 19, 17 and 27. You are welcome to try any of them.

The 19 is too small for my hands. I get bit every time I slam a mag home.

The 17 fits perfectly.

The 27 is very concealable and works extremely well for appendix carry. If I had it to do over again, it would be a 26. The .40 is very controllable in the little gun but still a Glock in .40 and I have concerns about longevity. Probably doesn't matter if you're not going to pound full power loads excessively but still...

One thought would be maybe the Glock 22 have used it for hunting with heavier bullets and carried
it as a side arm several years....
NG was shooting the MGM with his 1911 well it went down borrowed one from R2 a 45 the same story
the 1911....
Handed NG the 22 and some ammo to finish the MGM all went ok....Not the most for CCW but it will work.
The 23 my be a little better for CCW......
The 165gr LITE from speer does tame the recoil and works to reduce over penetration....
 Just my .02

I would get a 17 because I already have a 19 (CCW), 26, and a 30 that sits in the safe.

I just checked... the G18 is not on the approved list of guns... bummer...

The gun will probably 9mm...

G17/G19 or G34 I think are the ones to look at, maybe the G35 in .40.

Any thoughts on Gen4 vs the Gen3?

Contrary to popular lore, I have actually held a glock before, and, I know, blasphamy, shot them as well... go figure, I think my hand had a rash from exposure, but I did survive the encounter.  ;D

Thanks for the responses... to me this gun will be a utility gun, my boy might shoot it some, backpack, occasionally matches when needed, serious shooting and HD are covered, this is just a bonus gun for the safe. And this is not a hypothetical question, I will be getting a glock of some sort, thanks to the MGM Targets Grand Nationals... as I think TG will as well. :-)

And thanks Ekuo... I had a couple of good days and one really bad day, which funny enough on my off day RK was on FIRE! and shot like a madman! Nobody could beat him.

I would go with whatever 9mm model fits your hand the best.  The 26 is great for CCW but it can be awkward to shoot if you have giant hands.  I tend to bring my 26 to IDPA, you're welcome to to try it.  Some people find the 19 grip too small, I'd go handle some.
