Fire - Parma Gun Range
« on: July 30, 2011, 09:18:22 AM »
There is probably a lesson to be learned today.

With a little luck it will be lightning.

As we speak, there is a fire at the Parma Gun Range.

Yes WE are all fine, quite the sight when twenty of us shooters run, with shovels and wearing guns to where LIGHTNING struck a power pole, blew out a meter on the pole and started a small grass fire. WE kicked it's ass. period.
The only lesson to be learned is that you don't FUCK with real shooters in any form of problem.

If anyone got a video, it would be great press for the gun world.  A note to the media would not hurt our cause.

My first thought was, where is Evans when you really need him  ;D

It was all good, we spotted the fire just as it got started, actually Aaron the MD happen to be standing out on the rifle line and saw it, he dialed 911, we all grabbed shovels and ran over to it.

It wasn't on the gun range itself, it was across on the the access road going down to the range, close enough that the winds could have easily made it jump the road if it had gotten out of control.

I suppose the good news is RG will have something for his crews to do on Monday.

I am just a little bit surprised that you guys didn't make a side match out of it and shoot the fire out ;)

Since it was off range, (By about 20ft) we thought it wise to use shovels...

I am curious however, now that I've had a shower and feel normal again, what was meant by:

"There is probably a lesson to be learned today."

The Lighting and thunder over the range was rather intense, not a lot of rain, but man can nature make some noise. I just wonder if we hadn't been at the range, how bad it would have been. If there would have been a range, or dairy or farm land that is was on if we had NOT been around.

Mary and I were just thinking the same thing BK( Limited Champion), What if we hadn't been there and about the comment about " The lesson" ???

Did someone think perhaps WE were being less than careful with some type of ammunition ? WTF

The Grand Nationals Fire Patrol Squad hard at work on the neighboring land NEXT to the Parma Rod and Gun Club.

Fire was started by lighting, and you can see where the meter is black and no more, thankfully we were at the range and saw the fire start, this could have been a whole lot worse for the farmer/dairy land that the fire started on.

The range is immediately to the right on the other side of the road. I'm not sure what was faster, the guys racing to the fire or the calls to 911, but both got the job done! This was one well coordinated attack. Fire be GONE!!!

Easy pops.  Geez. Let's turn the drama down before we're all sporting pink tu-tus.  What's wrong with a bunch of people with guns getting a little positive press for taking care of business when nature decided to light some grass on fire.  It would sure as heck beat the usual demeaning fare we generally get.

Read the first post in this thread.  Because Ponder hasn't been back to explain himself, it appears as though he is insinuating we somehow started it or did something stupid out there.  No one gets it.  You just got the fallout.

I was intentionally ignoring the first post.  That insinuation wasn't/isn't worth acknowledging.  It's just standard internet asshattery.
