Any one know much about trouble shooting a PLC
« on: July 29, 2011, 01:39:48 PM »
I make soft plastic fishing lures for bass and my injection machine has an issue with the PLC.
The PLC is a Mitsubishi FX-32MR and the thermal couple interface is a FX4AD-TC.
With one heater on the temperature reading is changing on both heaters but only one is heating up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have an order due next Friday.

Thanks

PM NGO,
He has some experience with Programable Logic Controllers.

These are a few things that come to mind.
Are you sure your issue is with the PLC and not the heating element?
Can you switch heating circuits to see if the issue follows the element?
Does your system use a separate thermocouple to monitor each heating element and can you isolate them?
Did you check the input switching current >4mA/ <1.5mA at the PLC from the thermocouple interface?
We used Allen Bradley PLC’s and always used a laptop to trouble shoot the PLC itself and I’m afraid I’m not much help on that end.

Yes, seperate thermocouple for each heater.
I need someone with a laptop to trouble shoot it I think.

I am probably not much help either . I aced the class but have only done PLC's on the trainers , never any practical experience .

KCBoats might have some experience .

Allen Bradley stuff is what I am familiar with, but not much programming experience...usually I do the hard wire side of it.  Took the class but that was really, really basic stuff.  Best bet is to look on line and see if the company has a software/control download and a manual with trouble shooting guide.  Most of Mitsubishi stuff can be found on www.meau.com, looks like they have some free software downloads there.  Just make sure ya got or can get the programming cable (usually a simple 9 pin serial cable but sometimes they have a custom pin setup).  Like JMack said it could be numerous things but hard to troubleshoot without access to the machine.

There is a great guy I know named Steve that works for a company, but I will be damned if I can remember the name...let me look it up and will get back with you.  Steve is awesome and maybe able to help.
