Using small pistol magnum primers in 9mm?
« on: July 25, 2011, 01:22:51 PM »
So it turns out I bought CCI 550 magnum small pistol primers instead of non magnum. I did not realize this until today and I have already primed 500 9mm brass with them. So my questions are: is it going to work, is it a safety concern, and should I change the charge? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Edit to add: I am using Clays Universal Powder.

Don't sweat it just cut the load back a half grain out or maybe 3/10 of a grain and it'll work just fine.  The magnum primer just ignites a little more and makes your powder act like a faster burning powder.

I did the same thing loading 40s&w. I reduced the powder charge by 6/10 and it was WAY to much. You should only reduce the powder charge by 1/10 if at all. I tested after and the difference between a magnum primer and non-magnum primer with same charge of titegroup was less than 10fps.
