AAC Evo9 or Eco9?
« on: July 21, 2011, 05:14:45 PM »
I'm on a tight budget but would like to add a 9mm can. After a lot of debate and research I'm stuck on two and having a tough time deciding.

The AAC Evo9:

Or the AAC Eco9:

They are constructed exactly the same, using the same materials. The only difference is that the Eco9 uses the older Evo9 baffles that are easier to machine, and adds an extra baffle to increase the performance. Overall the Eco9 is .75" longer, .8oz heavier, and 3db less quiet but almost $200 cheaper.

Since you started out the post saying you are on a "tight budget", the price factor would seem to be the most important part of the discussion.
With that said, the Eco-9 should be the winner since moving up to the evo is a 50% jump in cost, and minimal performance increase numbers wise.
At an MSRP of $450 it sounds like a hell of a deal, as long as it works like it is supposed to.

I don't shoot .40 or .45 yet, and Silencerco is a company I've decided not to support for personal reasons. The can also exceeds the cost of both AAC cans.

FWIW  since any can you buy is going to cost you an additional 200  save up and buy the best you can afford.  the swr trident or silencerco are really tough to beat.  infact i haven't heard anything better.  you may want to look into SWR  they will cost about 200 more than your current budget.  tom bowers does make some great lower tech stuff and has the best warrenty in the business hands down, basiclly it's the same as dillons warrenty.

Making your decision based on budget/group buy is a terrible choice!
Take kaen3e’s advice and look at some quality options, remember your budget .308 build and my fucted up can.

To be fair, even with the cost factor completely aside, I probably would have gone with an AAC can anyway.

Well after a lot of deliberation, I think I'll take the old folk advice and step up. Paying out a SWR Octane 9.  ;D
