Hey, I am planning on making a trip out to Idaho and was wondering if anyone knows if there is any ranges around the Boise area that have a day use fee for non-members.  I was planning on bringing my handgun and a rifle along with me on my trip and would like to do some shooting.  Since, they closed down the range where I live, I have not had a chance to shoot in a long time and have been eager.  Also, it's been rainy/drizzly here, which doesn't make for the best shooting weather.    Anyhow, if anyone could give me a list of outdoor ranges in the area where I can shoot for the day, I'd appreciate it.  If anyone is willing to get me in as a guest, I would be thankful, but I don't want to burden anyone; it would be easiest if I can find a place where I can come and go easily.  I'm looking for a place where I can do free-style/non-bench pistol and rifle shooting, as well some bench-shooting.   I don't like indoor ranges, so I would try to avoid those.

When are you coming over?  There is a pistol match just about every weekend around here.  That would be a good way for you to check out the local ranges, AND get some shooting in.
Life is hard.  It's harder if you're stupid and can't shoot straight.

Blacks Creek is about 15 minutes from town. $5 I think. 200 yard range.

I shoot a match every weekend, and steel challenge monday and sometimes tuesday nights.
I often head out to the desert to practice on sundays (if there isn't a sunday match to shoot that is).
If you have targets and stands, then there are plenty of places to get in some trigger time.
If you are looking for a range, just let us know when you are coming to town, I'm sure someone here will get ya out.

Or like Ekuo said, come shoot a match!
A bunch of us are Road Tripping to Twin Falls this weekend for some 3 gun.

G. Nourse range is south of Nampa, free, and goes out to a shade over 100 yards.

blacks creek is a good range. at times a pain tho if alot of people are there or there is a event going on. It is the safest range i have ever shot at, not saying others are unsafe.

a plus to blacks creek and most ranges is if you have time and there are events going on they can be fun to watch. i have little interest in cowboy shooting from the perspective of something i would get into but it was extremely fun to watch and the people there loved to answer every question.

the desert is free and all together not a bad place to shoot. there are a few bad apples out there that don't care about anything, from safety to litter or just common courtesy. My biggest recommendation to out there is - find a place that makes you safe to others and safe from others. And my pet peeve is clean up more than you bring in. my brother and i usually bring out atleast half a truck load of trash (we worked for a buisness that didnt mind us using their dumpster space)

And,
Bring more water than you think you need.
It gets HOT out there.

I thank everyone for their help and information.  I'd be very happy to meet up with others there to go shooting at their range if I could.  Considering, I am new to the area and don't know anyone, I guess I don't know my way around or want to burden people.  As far as me shooting in competitions, I'd love to attend and shoot, but my shooting skills are pretty rusty and I have not really attended any matches before.  Basically, it has been a long time since I have shot and I need to relearn skills.  I work a real busy job in IT from home, so I don't get the opportunity to meet many people in Oregon around here to go shooting. Considering, there is few ranges around here and not many public places to shoot, I just don't ever get the time.

It sounds like Idaho may be a shooter's paradise.  I am impressed by all the different places people can go shoot around there. The day use fees people mentioned also sound very cheap.  Also, it sounds like there is a nice community of shooting enthusiasts and I definitely would like to try to get more involved.

I am planning on coming out in the middle of August, but it may be sooner.  I'm wanting to investigate the Boise area, but also I am planning on doing some hiking around the Sawtooth mountains and may look at doing some other outdoor activities around the state.  I haven't had a vacation in 6 years or so, because of my job, so I figure this may be a good opportunity to have one.

I will make note of the ranges people have mentioned.  If anyone is willing to take time and bring a newcomer to a match or show me their range, I would be honored.  I'm going to have figure out what is what in Idaho, as it's new territory for me.   Once again, my plans are a bit shaky, but that's why I am planning a month in advance.

New shooters are welcomed and encouraged at matches... it's like a bowling league, you bring what you got and learn from the better guys. You don't need to practice up to come to a local match.

Our only requirement is that you are safe and obey the rules of the range, and ask when you are not sure. If you know your coming post a note, if you don't have all your equipment with you, I'm sure we can come up with something, we are a very friendly bunch!

This also goes for the rest of you that haven't been to a local match... come on out! You don't know what your missing!

I appreciate everyone's help.  I will make note of those who said they be willing to assist me in bringing to their range or to a match and send them a PM when the time approaches that I am coming.  I am thinking this trip is happening in August.  The rain and clouds here in Oregon are just inspiring all the more to get out of here for a while.  I'm thinking I might do a trip around all of Idaho just to see what it is all like.

Thanks again for all those who are willing to help.  It's tough when you don't know your way around a place, but I am glad the people here are so friendly and helpful.

with millions of acres of BLM within an hour in any direction why go to a range for anything but a formal shoot.  taking the machine guns out tomm. and don't have to deal with any NO-Fullauto bullshit allowed(Blackscreek)
