Solar Food dehydrator
« on: June 24, 2008, 03:35:47 PM »
While shooting the ISSC last weekend one of the guys there was talking about the Solar food dehydrator he builds . When I was asking about it he mentioned that he had one he would sell me sitting back home in Lewiston . Well a quick trip back down from Lewiston with a friend of his and its sitting in my kitchen today . It is a really nice piece of gear with a lot of thought put into it . He charges in the neighborhood of 160 bucks for one and I can hook you guys up if your interested . I know it sounds like a bunch of cash but this thing is very well made and designed to do a bunch of dehydrating at once . I am guessing I can do 3-4 times as much in this as I can my American Food Dehydrator and it won't cost me anything in electricity .

Dries apples like nobodies business . I am currently waiting for the fruit stands to get some Apricots to try next and if I can get a good deal on some lean meat somewhere I will do some Jerky . I was gonna use some of my Venison but all I have left is Backstrap and I plan on eating that some weekend when the kids are gone .

So do you put it outside where the bugs can get at it?

It does go outside but has screens to allow for bug free airflow . I will be more than happy to bring it to Pizza night sometime so everyone can get a good look at it if they would like .

Mike, I'd like to give it a try.  Maybe I could get it next Thursday?  I'm only interested in trying it on some fruit.
