Pistol sight question....
« on: May 27, 2011, 08:42:11 AM »
Wanting to locate a shop or individual where I can have the front fiber optic on a sig 229 with trijicon night sights replaced.   The dealer (out of state) where purchased reports this as a common occurrence and sig dealers replace these fiber rods in minutes by gluing a new section of fiber optic into the front sight.  No replacement of sight hardware will be necessary.  If someone has info on where to take it, it will be much appreciated!  Thanks!  ;D

Any gunsmith can handle that... RK if your in Nampa can probably do it while you wait.

However, fiber is cheap, order a small stick and do it yourself... i replace the fiber on my guns all the time... it's common for them to fly out, fun to actually watch it fly out when your shooting... means your really watching your front sight. ;D

Cool, sounds like RK's the place.  Looking into getting a stick of fiber sounds like a win!  Where did you find yours Luvmy45?  Retail, online? Thanks.. 8)

In 3 yrs of competition shooting I lost the fiber optic tube only once.  I attribute that to being installed too loose.  The ones from Dawson Precision are pretty robust.  I even have one on my EDC.

I replace the tubes every 4-6 months, or whenever they get degraded to the point where the tubes don't transmit as much light.

OP, I'm confused.  Do you have a Sig with fiber optic front sight that you want to replace with trijicon, or a Sig with trijicon front sight that you want to replace with fiber optic?

If the second, go with a Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight.  They cost approx $40, and RK Gunsmithing (popsgunner) can replace it in 10 mins for a Benjamin Franklin, or it can be a DIY project if you have the right tools.

I think it's taken me a few years to figure out that when I install a FO it needs to be tight... loose = flying fiber... I usualy end up field replacing my in a hurry, the last one I did at home has lasted over a year, so taking your time is the best way.

FO is cheap, I ordered Dawson Precision FO from their web site, just get the right size, $7 or so I think? Been a while, a stick lasts a while.

Exactly!  Plus you can adjust the size of the "dot" by melting more or less when you install.
