Topic: AR's AK's M1A's Most all else

 Which in your opinion is the most dependable rifle or reliable , some which are not listed....
 Have shot and used many different rifles and have been pleased with most of them...
 Long term use say with little or no cleaning or lube....Something that would remain dependable.
 Your thoughts....

Yup! AK all day, be it an actual Mikhail Kalashnikov. There are plenty of reproductions manufactured around the world nowadays where the true grit has on occasion been compromised.  Sort of like 1911's.  No offence to the 1911 fans, the honest ones know what I mean.  (Please no hate mail)          Personally, however, I wouldn't pick up an AK over a good 'ol  M14.  Range, accuracy, and impact in exchange for an additional cleaning is a fair trade.  Lube it with axle grease if I had to.  AR's, yea, keep a can of Rem Oil by your side at all times.  Light, fast, accurate, and ergonomic but fire them dry for too long and 'yer fukd.

    Really though, if the conditions call for extended periods of time where cleaning and/or lubrication were not an option-  ak.

IMO, I would always choose an upper end AR. Accurate, light, and much more accurate than an AK, especially at distance. I run them wet, I put around 1100 rounds through one of mine before I cleaned it with out one issue. Took me forever to clean it though when I finally did......lol

Personally I'd go with a tilting breech block action such as an SKS or FN FAL.  So few parts, you have a lower chance of something going wrong compared to a rotating bolt design like the AK or the AR.

I'll put in another vote for a FAL!

Now days I really don't see that the AK is anymore dependable or reliable than an AR.  I've seen both go down in circumstances where you wouldn't think that they would.  And I've seen both run, when you'd swear that they would stop.  Any of the better made AR's and AK's I think are on equal footing anymore.

For ultimate reliability, I agree with Joey......bolt gun!

I gotta go with the M14.  Accurate, super dependable, easy to maintain, plus more power then .223 or 7.62x39.

Those who know me, know that I am a tried and trued AR fan.  With that being said.... If the zombies where coming and I was only able to take one rifle out of the safe..... AK.  The history of the AK speaks for itself.  As many have said a "high end" AR is probably just as reliable, but you can buy an AK and a lot of ammo for the price of that "high end" AR.
And yes Joey is right as well, hard to go wrong with a bolt gun (Remmy 700 in 308, is my preferred bolt gun).  But you run into other issues, like mag capacity (if you are lucky enough to run a DBM), follow up shots, etc....
I firmly believe that mission dictates gear, I think that all weapons that have been talked about here have their place.... When the Zombies attack, look for me to have an AK in my hands.
