componet prices
« on: April 21, 2011, 10:05:57 AM »
Its not a rumor, componet prices have jumped . Primers over 10 % and bullets over 15% . These are OEM not retail price increases so take it for what its worth . Cooper went up 5X so its all coming to a store near you . after looking at distributor mags I have already seen as much as 15 % increases.

Every maunfacturer I know (several) are going balls out. This is just one of many increases that we might see this year.  I dont believe this has anything to do with the season . Cooper prices drive everything to do with ammo , except powder, which has already gone up.  ATK Speer owns eveything except Hornady , ATK had driven up prices during the Obama scare , but this is different. We buy bullets, primers ,cases and powder by the pallet, so its not just the little guys that are going to get wacked.  I wish I had better news.

This increase will apply to any orders shipped after May 1, 2011. The new pricing and
programs will be sent to you in the next few weeks."

From Hornady:

bullet plant products, ammunition products, and cartridge cases. This will exclude reloading
tools."

I mentiOned the seasons because when I worked at a recycling plant the market prices of metal would ncrease around may. The biggest being copper going from say 1.90 a pound up to 4.50 a pound (market prices). Keep in mind it is in the best intreats of the plants to buy it from you for as low as possible. Also alot Of it went to china who is still building housing like mad.

Copper and lead drive the ammo industry.

Drifting off topcoat slightly commodities in general have gone up. Subway had a sign on their door saying the a raising all their prices. Fuel, increased min wage, and the impending healthcare laws are gong to hurt us all for the next few years

This got me curious, how have fuel surcharges changed over time?  I did some googling and found this table which has data up to earlier this month.  I don't know how accurate the info is, but I spot checked the last few months against UPS's website and they were accurate.

I took the info and put it in excel, interestingly enough the air surcharge peaked in September of 2008, and immediately dove by February of 2009 to almost nothing.  Ground peaked at a little over 10% during the same period, and shrunk down to 2.25% by May of 2009.  We're back up to 7.5% for the most current numbers.

edit: In case it's not obvious, I attached the excel workbook in case anyone would like to see the charts.  I'll put it up on google documents tonight, unfortunately it's blocked at work.

The rest of the world is consuming mass quantities of our raw materials.  So, prices here will increase.

Yea, we have multiple types of inflation hitting us right now.  Enjoy the ride.  :(
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

To bad there arent cheap Alts to lead and copper. Unicorn shit that leaves a glittery trail would be cool.  I wonder if a dense plastic bullet would ever be feasible. Would of course be longer and lighter but plastic prettymuch ends up in the trash
