Looking for .223 load
« on: April 10, 2011, 08:42:04 PM »
I was given some 50gr lead bullets, I have no info other than that.

I would like to find some good data on these for use on ground squirrels.

Anybody have any data to help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, yep that's what I'm finding, no data for the 50gr lead bullet and I hate guessing. Maybe that’s why they were given to me in the first place, he couldn’t figure out a load for them.

In The Complete Reloading Manual for the .223 under Lyman Bullets it shows cast bullets of 45gr an 54gr, I think I will try one of the loads listed for 54gr and see what happens.

I would check over @ http://www.loadswap.com Beartooth bullets makes lead .223 bullets and I bet the guys over there would some data for you.

You are planning on using in your bolt gun and not an AR?

I hear bad juju in a semi but maybe others with more experience will chime in.
Unless you have a specific reason to use them in your 14 I think I would pass.

Lead in the gas tube was my first thought...

I shoot cast bullets in AR's in .223, 6.5 Grendel, and 7.62 x 39.  No problem with gas tubes.  Lots of people have been shooting cast for years in AR's, AK's, M1 Garands, you name it.

Do they have gas checks? If so, you should not have any trouble keep them running around 2000 fps. I shoot lots of cast boolits in my MK II 223AI. 150 yards or better they do a fine job on sound dogs.

If they do not have gas checks, I would not try them.

 Hope that helps
