OK, besides having a good AR, pistol and shotty, I think everybody should have a heavy AR too. Well, I am trying to make a decision on what to do. I currently own a DPMS AP-4 with a 16 inch barrel, not a long range rifle, but will get the job done out to 600 yards maybe (which is fine for me). So far the rifle hasn't given me any problems with all the different ammo I've fed it. All five of the metal DPMS mags work great and the 2 Magpul mags I have open run fine too ( I still have 4 NIW). The only thing I need to do is get a good scope for it now. I also have an Armalite/Eagle Arms AR-10 lower receiver with 5 NIW Armalite 20 rnd gen II mags, with no other parts yet for it. What would you do, get a scope for the DPMS or sell it to fund the AR-10 build? I can really have both unless I slowly get the rest of the parts for the AR-10.

Sell and build the AR10 all the way. If add the extra time/money you can spend the extra bone's on a awesome upper. j/m.02c

tough call. may i suggest maybe a different ar upper? there is nothing like 308 but you can get some decent power with some uppers and you would still have your 5.56 upper. other wise i vote ar10

You didn’t say what your intended use was but this is my current mindset on the issue.

1) For fun plinking like long range varmint hunting or target shooting I use my .223 chambered 24” AR-15 type semi auto and my SBR for everything else.
2) For SHTF end of the world stuff I want my 308 chambered AR-10 type semi auto and mags loaded quality bullets like the Barnes M/LE Tac-X.

If ammo cost was not an issue I would only shoot AR-10’s chambered in .260 or .308 and I would still build some long and short versions like my current AR-15’s but ammo cost is an issue for me and for the amount of shooting we do I need to stick to .223 for our semi auto fun shooting and bolt guns for the rest.
