I used to buy his bullets years ago. Always good bullets, good prices, and a good guy to talk to. We used to chat at the gun shows. Come to think of it, although I don't go to many Boise gun shows anymore, I haven't seen him in years. He'd have to be pretty old by now.

Ray sold all his equipment to a guy in Hammett.  John something.  I'll think of his last name at some completley inappropriate time.

Thanks all. The neighbor thought he had purchased enough  225gr 45cal round nose with a bevel base, for a life time. I talked to Oregon Trail Bullet CO about their offering and maybe we can find something else he can stock up on.

Yeah Ray passed away a few years ago. shortly after selling all the equipment. My dad and him were pretty good friends.

Anyone know a local source for lead cast bullets. I need some .45 and .357 bullets.

The guy in Hammett is probably John Watkins.  As of a year ago he was still casting.  I'll see if I can get current contact info and confirm he is still in business.

Yes, that's the guy.  I have his card somewhere.  I'll dig for his info.

Ray's stuff was quality reloads - I think I still have some of his 45acp - I'd wondered what happened to him.

I saw a few boxes of Ray's reloads at the Kuna gun show - maybe they are collectible now.

I remember talking to Ray in his shop about how some days his bullet casting machine would not work - the bullets would stick in the molds - even though they had been prepared just the same as every other day. He concluded that some days he just could not cast bullets on those days and would just make up for it on the good days. I wondered if it was humidity - but who knows.

Hi, I am Ray Marlow's daughter Lisa, and he did pass away in 2003. He sold his bullet equipment to his friend in 1999 or 2000 and pretty much retired at that time to travel with my mom. It still brings a smile to my face when we get the occasional phone call, or in this case, a random google search that pulls his name up because people are still looking to buy his bullets. Anyways, I saw this post and thought Id comment on it :)

I am upset every time I hear that one of the older generation leaves us.
After failing to find a quality local source for bullets I started to cast my own.
I just wish i could find someone experienced who could evaluate my work through the lens of experience.

Ha, I still have several boxes of his bullets...as wellas several boxes of Bert Cole's bullets as well and a couple of boxes of loaded ammo from (SEI?) the guy up at Placerville (or New Centerville) that use to reload.  Ray learned the business from Bert and made pretty good bullets but Bert said that he scrimped on the linotype a bit :)
Both were great bullets.

The good ole days.
