1911 magazines
« on: March 04, 2011, 07:37:08 PM »
I need to get a few more mags for my 1911, and found Chip McCormick mags for $25. I have never used any of these. Are they good to go, or should I stick to Wilson mags?

Jordan,
I have a bunch of CMC mags and they've been good to me.  Given the price I'm guessing you're looking at the Power Mags.  The only thing to be concerned with is if you plan to use a magwell, and which one, because the PwerMag basepads may not be thick enough for some of the deeper magwells.  Works fine with a S&A-style magwell though.

I don't currently have a magwell on my 1911. If I end up using one it will not be anything crazy like the ice magwell on my Glock.

Yeah, the Dawson ICE or the Techwell XT were two that I had in mind when I wrote that part about the basepads not being tall enough.  You ought to be good to go then with the PowerMags.

I'd like to try some power mags in my gun, so far Wilsons have been the most reliable.

I have 3 CMC's that failed me in a commander length pistol until I put wilson springs and followers in them. I also run wilsons and love them.
They call me "Double J"

KimPro and Wilson work best for me. Chip 10 rounders work well, but don't fit the magwell on my springfield trophy match.

I use 5 cmc power mags and 3 with extra power springs. Zero issues with all.

You guys suck.  I have bought Chip mags on three different occasions and didn't have very good luck with them.  I use Wilson mags for duty and have a bunch of GI for training.

If money is no object then I would run the Wilsons . I ran the Chip McCormick 10 rounders when shooting L10 but the Wilsons for Daily Carry as they are just a better made magazine .

Have to Wilson mags the "bureaucrat" have given the best service for ten round mags..
The Wilson- Rogers eight round with rubber pad that is removal and easy to clean, has a wolf spring and have no problems feel safe in carry........

Mine are all Colt stainless and they are cheap, $12 a pop if you watch the Gun auctions, and very reliable - least in my Colt they are -

I have a number of Shooting Stars that are more than 10yrs old. I have used them in all 3 of my full sized 1911s without issue. They get used weekly. I also have some of the 10round McCormicks that I only use them a couple of times a year. No trouble with any of the mags.

If I was going to go to $25 for a 1911 mag, I'd just shop around and snag the Wilson mags.

You can buy the Shooting Stars for a lot less than $25 most anywhere.
Some people are like Slinkies - not really good for anything, but you can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.
