Talk at the last one was that they would hold some type of class a week or two prior to this one for newbs and that would be their golden ticket.

This will be open to new people. If you want to put them on your team.
Spoke to Match director and hes ok with it, if you are ok with it to put them on your team.
Only thing is the amount of teams need to be held down....
Early contact is important so teams can be limited......

200 rilfe
100 pistol
is the minimum PER shooter
so x4 for a squad

300 rifle
150 pistol
is reccomended so you don't run out

more if you end up shooting on more than 1 squad

Really ?? 300 rounds of rifle and 150 of pistol would be 10-15 magazines for each firearm ?? I have shot several of these in the past and have generally needed less than half that .

Well.... yeah, some folks can't shoot so good.
(edit, so they are going to need more than 200 rifle and 100 pistol)

One can always take ammo home.

The round count is high but in contact with match director he say you are good to go and if done right some teams may get to shoot twice.....
Past shoots have shot All of the ammo and part of team members ammo because his rifle went down
another time members scope was off so its your call........

Gentlemen and others………….whatever that might be.

We are moving the Patrol shoot due to some conflicts.  The date will be the 19th of March.

Set up will commence on Friday the 18th at 1PM. Remember we will be on Daylight Saving Time by this date.

Signup for the actual shoot will start at 0900 on Saturday.

We will be using a match plan put forth by one of our shooters, RGinIdaho. It will be challenging and a lot of fun. This will be run as a TWO MAN SNIPER TEAM. And two,  TWO MAN SQUADS. The three teams will all be connected via radio comms, with each team starting in different locations, with all teams working towards a “full team extraction point”. Movement will have to be corridinated between teams. The snipers will use their sniper or DM rifles AND will be required to have a side arm each and their assault rifle. The sniper  teams will be moving probably as much if not more than the assault squads. One rifle squad will need a DM on the team, the other squad will need a shotgunner on the team and will be required to carry that weapon as well as their personal assault rifle. The DM can carry a DM rifle only if he has that weapon available to him. Both  assault    teams will need sidearms as part of their  gear.

Standard patrol shoot rules apply. You have to carry all you bring, you cannot leave weapons, ammo, mags or buddies bodies behind. Carry it in……carry it out. Cover has to be used,   crawled over  or under shot around and over and under and you can expect to get dirty………….standard  patrol team t security will be required and if not followed  a time penalty will be assessed. J

Buz  has prepared an additional 80 plus steel KD plates……..it is a secret where they came from……….as well as some new sniper targets. There will also be some new targets you have never seen before……….to see them you have to show up. There will be a lot of shootin and scooting…………… J

This will be all  done on foot. No ATVs, trucks or tracks……………..

I need RSVPs so we can plan for the number of shooters and teams. If you have a team or preference on who you  want to squad with please let me know. Dress for the weather and bring you lunch. Remember this shoot is a all day deal and everyone will be  busy setting, resetting, scoring, ROing etc……..

There are some radios available but if you wish to bring your own that would be great,
but remember the teams will all need to be able to communicate with each other...

That was one of the best patrol shoots ever... loved the setup, the communication, the different styles of shooting. Lot's of fun!

I like the sniper team... that was a blast, as it's always fun hitting 700yd targets that fall over!

Yup...good match for sure and lots of fun.  Two people moving together is a lot less stressful than a group of four.  Probably safer too.
Hey LM45...what would you think about the sniper team having to cover some ground on the clock?  That way they would have to get up there in a hurry, range all the targets, then figure their DOPE and start shooting?  I don't know, just thought that might add a little physical stress into the mix.

Adios,
TG

That would be a great addition, and stress addition... at first I thought that would be the case, little more time pressure. That would be a good addition to what we did today... I really like the sniper/spotter team idea, and doing it that way... true, you really only have one sniper, but the spotter on a DM type gun can bang away at targets under 500 with speed, while the sniper takes the longer shots at 500+... Might even throw in a super accurate shot, like a head shot at 200 to 300 yds on one of the MGM precision rifle targets... it's one thing to hit a 1 MOA piece of steel but ti hit a 1/2 or 1/4 MOA target at distance under pressure, that's another story.

I really liked this format, and I think we can develop this!

Had a great time. Thanks to everyone that helped make this run smoothly. The cleanup crew kicked ass and did not get stuck...

I kept the snipers headed downhill in the interest of time and because some of us have passed the big 50 in age and waist!  ;D

Egress, Mopeman, Carhartfarmer,
Thanks for letting me shoot with you. It was great to shoot two different roles, sniper and rifleman. I wish I could have run the shotgun pit with a third team. Of course I may have bled out...

My guns are glad there are two patrol shoots a year. Otherwise they would not recieve their biannual cleaning.  ;)

Great shooting! Had a great time even though I broke my sniper rifle. Went to Sportsman's to day replaced broken scope mount and I'm back in business. Raul thanks for the advise on Warn mounts they look great! Props to Jim spotter/ counter sniper that was able to pick up the targets I was unable to engage due to breakdown issues. Thanks to all who participated, and a big thanks to those that set up and those who stuck around for the tear down. That type of team work is essential for these types of events! ;D ;D

Scores are making their way to me and I'll get them posted when I get them.

Not sure what's with the parma site... I've been on and off all day, between tiling my bathroom, haven't noticed any issues, I'll check the log. Thanks for the heads up.

Worked from home so maybe it was just something from work.  Could have been fine all day I suppose.

Good CoF for sure.  Thanks to the RO's for putting it together and keeping us safe and the Friday Setup Crew for getting targets set up.  It was the best shooting event I have ever participated in.

After the November Patrol Shoot, Ralph Grienger said he had some ideas he would like to run past me for the next Patrol Shoot. This was essentially the result of  what Ralph Had in mind. The  course of fire called for a six man squad divided into 3   two man    teams. A sniper team, a rifle and shotgun team, and a DM and rifleman   team. Teams starting on the Eastern most pistol pits were designated the Alpha  team, the  team in the Conex pits were the Bravo team and the Sniper team started at the top of the hill North of the club house. The teams cleared their respective areas of targets and  all three converged at a   central point down range of the clubhouse at about the 325 yard point.

This was a very complicated course of fire that required the teams to coordinate their movement with a control. Each team had   stop points that could not be gone past until the team had clearance  from the main control  point. The reason for this was that fires were being directed towards  the several teams as they conducted their movement. Our erstwhile artist, Bruce Bates did a masterful job of laying out the course of fire on the clubhouse white board. A picture of the course of fire can be seen in the attachment. Ralph’s drawing of the event that we worked from is also attached. BCRD stands for barricade or cover.

Once of the interesting aspects of this was that one portion of the team, say the Alpha team could have issues that  in a strict two-man competition would have eliminated them from  being competitive whereas in this event  it may or may not have had an impact at all. For example, Jon Koopman and I were the Alpha team which included the designated marksman and a rifleman. I was shooting an Armalite AR10 that decided to puke on me with about every third round jamming the gun. Part of the COF we were dealing with required coordinated fires from each person on the two man team and with me  constantly dealing with a jammed gun it slowed us down considerably. In spite of this, we reached our first stop point and still had to wait for the sniper two man team to  reach their safety point before we could proceed. As such our total team time was not adversely affected by my rifle issues. We subsequently reached our second stop control point just seconds after Bravo team reached their second stop point even though they had cleared to their first stop point much faster than we did.

Part of the Alpha COF required a series of plates to be taken out by each rifleman. One shooter would hit a center located target after which the second shooter would take out a plate. This process would repeat itself until all the plates on one side of the pit were cleared. The shooters would then switch roles clearing the other side I the same fashion.

I really wish someone would have taped Travis Gibson and Raul Garcia blaze through that portion of the event. It was rifle poetry in action. The first and follow-up shots were so quick you could hardly discern the difference  between shots. Very cool to watch.

Sniper targets were set up as   far away as seven hundred yards. For the experienced long range shooters it did not take long to clear those  targets. They then began moving towards the club house taking out a series of handgun targets, more rifle targets and finally holing up  behind the 300 meter berm while waiting for the two rifle teams to work towards them.

The Bravo team  had a series of rifle knock down plates in excess of 130 plates and about 50 clay pigeon targets to take out as   they advanced  thru their course of fire. It was set up a bit less complex than the Alpha  team targets however, if you have never shot that many clay pigeons with a shotgun in a timed event you will quickly learn that it is a process to keep that shotgun loaded and shooting.

Once Alpha and Bravo teams linked up  their were still another 125 plus steel plates  to be engaged with 4 of the new sniper plates needing to be engaged 4 times each by each rifleman.

I was reminded  how fast a twenty round magazine, loaded to 18  rounds go  empty. It is not a holly weird gun. Even 30 round AR mags go dry in a quick hurry.

Rocky and I appreciate everyone that helped set up on Friday. We could not do this without that kind of help. The tear down crew  which was just about everyone  was great as well. The event was taken down and put away in less than an hour.

This particular shoot is pretty unique. There are not many places in the country that offer this kind of opportunity. Running through a course of fire such as this tells you a lot about your skills, tactics, your weapon  your support gear or LBE and your ability to work with a partner and a team. Great fun, fun to shoot and fun to watch.

Of course you know why Team Goodfellow came in first...it was the definitive, clear and precise way NG called for "time".

Fast forward to 10:15 and enjoy.

Just curious what the time penalty for standing out in the open after you run out of ammo and wait for your team mate to bring you more ammo might be . Unless of course there is some Tactical advantage that I am overlooking ;D

yes, i think the team got a time deduction for excellence in ammo management by employing a ammo bearer...

And then they knocked another 10 seconds off for every F-Bomb the Bishop let off ??
