How's the yote hunting South of Boise these days?  Worth it to invest the time? I got a hankering to shoot something!

Head out to Gowen road...take a right on "Technology Road" (You only think it is the delivery entrance to Micron. Stay on the road ,3/4 of mile...it turns into East Columbia Road....follow it two more miles past all the houses. Your on the "Oregon Trail!!! Take it back or follow it up into the hills....coyotes all day long.

I use to live on East Columbia....never ran out of coyotes to shoot around my old place.

Been good.

Still no job.

Got two inches of snow last night.

Gets cold here...20 below is common.

Good news is when it gets to freezing , we think it has warmed up and is nice out.

Driveway has two inches of ice on it, since about Christmas time. Makes life interesting when you consider it is a mile long drive down hill.  Nothing like a Suburban getting sideways on a one lane dirt road and a dropoff...

We did have to buy heavy duty winter clothing....stuff from Boise winters just doesn't cut it when it is 20 below and windy.... plus clothing has to be durable, heavy duty to work around the ranch..."Carhart " quality is a must, anything else get destroyed quickly!!

Gloves...several pairs are a  must...you sweat, gloves get wet and freeze to metal when you touch it.  Need to change gloves.

A couple leather boots also a must, alternate them to give them a day to dry between wearing.  Neatsfoot oil to treat them also.

Been doing OK, life here is fun and lots of work. Got a couple deer this year , all our animals are still alive...looking forward to starting the green house next month...short growing season here!! Much shorter than Boise area. Must use a green house to grow anything.

Good to hear from you NGO.

Just remember, the great thing about snow and cold is that it keeps the flatlanders away...

Got down to -1  last night.

Suppose to get to 18 degrees tday.

Yeah, not much of a homeless or vagrant problem in the parts.... ???

I grew up in Montana, in Roundup.  Where are you at?  The winters can be brutal, in the early 80's we had some days with wind chill it was supposed to have been -70.  Montana had the best hunting I have ever seen!!  The winters are beautiful though, after it snows the bright clear sunny day are great even if they are negative temps!!

I sure miss it.

west of Helena, south of Missoula, north of Butte.

It was warm last night!!! cloud cover...24 degrees...feels like a heat wave this morning when I checked the animals.

suppose to get above freezing today.

Lots of animals here, deer...hundreds within a mile radis of the house. Yes hundreds...no other nighbors for two miles , one way, four miles the other and 1000 foot rollings hills and vallys all around. Natural springs and plenty of grass. Hundreds. I have counted 54 once just from the deck.

When it gets cold , elk. lots of yotes, fox and bobcat tracks also. No wolves yet.  Bears are possible also.Occasional Moose one every few years I'm told.

Sounds almost like paradise.  Any prarie dogs up around there?

I just got back from re-training at Keesler AFB, had a young girl in the class that was from Butte.  Good kid, she's in Guam now.  She claims she misses the winter in Butte.  :o

I asked her if her high school mascot was the Pirates.  The rest of the kids got a good laugh, it took her a second longer to get the joke.
