.45 ACP Loads
« on: January 17, 2011, 10:37:17 AM »
Just starting to reload .45 ACP for my Kimber Pro Carry.  I will be using 230 gr FMJ RN.  Any suggestions for powder and loads?  I have been using Hodgdon Universal for my .40 S & W with not problems.

Thanks

Lost of good loads out their.

Clays is a very soft shooting powder around 4.2gr is a nice soft shooting load for practice, and competition.

Titegroup is a little snappier than Clays around 4.5gr is a good load.

I've also used W231 with good success, can't remember the load

Unique is good as well, little dirtier than the others, but usually inexpensive.

My preference is for Clays, but I settled on Titegroup because I can load 9 and 45 with the same powder, so I just have to stock up on one powder for my shooting needs for pistol.

RG has a killer load for .45 using Vihotouri Powder and SWC

I use Power Pistol for everything.  It seems to yield really good velocity numbers, but most probably don't care that much about that.  It has a good "shock and awe" effect with the fireball that you get though.. :)

But you could probably chose from about 5-10 different powders and get a good shooting load.

W231 at 5.8 grns does nicely in my Colt.

Fireballs - while cute and great, are the last thing you'll see if you fire it at night.

Some people are like Slinkies - not really good for anything, but you can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

You should shoot during the day.  You can actually see your targets.. ;)

You did not say how your pistol was set up………..i.e., heavy hard ball spring or light, target wadcutter spring, etc, etc??

Makes a difference especially if your not to fond of your gun jamming.
