MGM New Years day 3 gun man on man
« on: December 13, 2010, 07:51:38 PM »
Here is the official announcement!!
Who:  All skill levels and anyone who wants to shoot three gun...oh yea...you have to be willing to have a good time.
What:  Fourth annual MGM NYD MOM 3G
When:  Jan 1 08:00 sign up/set up 09:00 shooting
Where:  Parma Rod and Gun club
Why:  Loads of fun of course!!
Additional details:  $20 entry free with 100% cash payback to top 33% in three divisions.  Beginner, intermediate, and expert.
Bring whatever guns you want.  Shotguns and pistols with comps and/or red dots will be handicapped one plate.  Basically, what this means is if you are running a red dot and/or comp, you'll have to shoot one additional plate than the guy shooting irons.
Rifles with RDS's or irons will receive a two plate handicap.
Rifle targets will be 6" or 8" plates at about 100y.  Shotgun and pistol targets will be plate racks at 10-12 yards.
Depending on how many people we have show up, I'll set up two courses of fire.  Hopefully we'll be out of there by 15:00.   Let me know if you have any questions.
Adios,
TG

First off, Cody is actually praticing specifically for a gun game.

This is definantly a great match. Personally I have yet to win a string the last two years and I still had a great time. I am hoping to make it this year with a scoped rifle that works and a new shotgun that I can't short stroke. I love how the man vs man aspect, and using three differant guns, causes everything for me to go horribly wrong.

Since I am an unclassified shooter in any gun game, what class should I shoot in?  Or how does one go about figuring that.

Lots of people who come and shoot aren't classified in any of the disciplines.  Don't sweat it too much.  We have beginner, intermediate and expert.  We don't check classifications before people sign up.  It's an honor system deal.  Should be a lot of fun.

I am unclear.  Can a person shoot in select weapon catagories..(for example pistol only) or does a competitior have to shoot with all firearms, rifle, pistol, shotgun.

You'll be shooting all three guns at the same time.  Basically, on the buzzer, you shoot a plate rack down with your shotgun and discard it, shoot 6 rifle targets at about 100 yards discard it, shoot a plate rack with you pistol and a cross over stop plate.  You'll be doing this at the same time as the person you are matched up against.  Whoever's cross over stop plate is on the bottom wins.  Best two out of three per match up, double elimination.  Sorry for not having more of an explenation.  I have to keep telling myself not everyone has shot this before.

3 Gun - You shoot all three guns: rifle, shotgun and pistol

See video for example, except we will be man on man, and maybe not this course of fire, but something like it.

In years past we have shot all 3 weapons . The difference is what division you are in is based on how those 3 weapons are set up . It usually went something like this .

1. Engage plate rack with pistol
2. After clearing plate rack move to second shooting position and engage targets with rifle
3. After clearing rifle targets move to another shooting location(or back to plate rack) and engage with shotgun

Whoever finishes fastest (usually best 2 out of 3 runs) moves on to the next round . It generally works as a round robin elimination until the fastest 2 shooters match up . The better you do the more rounds you get to shoot .

kaen3e, I will vouch for you.   Expert class for you.

As for the format, imagine the PSS all counting as one match.   Pistol, transition to Subgun, transition to Shotgun...

Don't know for sure yet.  Depending on what the footing is like, there might be some movement between shooting positions.  I would bring a holster for sure though.  Helps speed things up between shooters.  We'll need the down time to be minimal to help us get out of there before dark :)

Anyone want to test out a new red dot sight for me?  It comes with a flat top adapter.  I'm not shooting the match but would like someone to test it out and see how they like it.  If you are interested send me a PM.  ;)

Thanks Ron and Travis for the compliment.    I have seen the 3gun plate rack races but had a couple of my customers wanting to play and had only attended the IAWCA PSS and asked if that was the format.  Soooo I needed a little clarification.  I will see what I can do to scrounge up a non-fullauto rifle.

Right now weather is saying 22 degrees for the high on the first and sunny.  There was about a foot of snow out there yesterday and it is supposed to snow either tonight or tomorrow.  I'd bring warm ones.
Round count will be six rifle, six shot, and seven pistol per match up if you never miss.  This means you'll probably shoot at least twice that much per match up.  Bring a couple hundred of everything and if you run out, I'm sure someone will loan you some...unless it is the guy you are shooting against!!  :nutkick:  :rofl2:

I am really interested in this!!  I have not had a chance to be in any type of competition shoot, I have a rifle and shotgun, my only handgun is .22 lr, are there any caliber restrictions??  I have never even been to an official range to shoot is this a good competition for a total beginner to be in or should I wait for something else?

Well you should come out then!!!  The .22 probably won't work just because it won't knock the plates over.  Let's do this...you go buy some ammo, let me know what you get, and I'll bring a pistol, magazines, mag pouches, and a holster to match it.  Some Whinchester white box in 9mm or .40 would probably be best.  If you haven't ever shot in a competition before, 100-150 rounds should be plenty.  Let me know if you want to take me up on this.

Just get some 9mm. I pulled off about 200 rnds last night and still have 150 from another match that was canceled.
I have plenty of ammo should you run out.
We are all going to pitch in and make sure you come and have a great time.

We'll see how the ground looks before we decide how much movement we are going to do.  Probably wont do much, but we'll see.  Here is what we'll be shooting at:
Rifle - 3 Gun Nation Plate rack - 8" plates at about 90 yards
Shotgun - Plate rack at about 12 yards
Pistol - Plate rack at about 12 yards and one cross over plate.
I don't think we are going to have more than 30 shooters so we are all going to shoot together.  I'll have the three gun nation barricades out for support on your rifle if you want.  I'll also have the 3 gun nation gun boxes.  Two of them.  One on the right of the barricade, and one on the, left.  Start with whatever gun you want.  Can't have two long guns in one box.  Pistol whever you'd like.  10 rounds in pistol, 8+1 in the shotgun, whatever you want in the rifle.  I think I said one plate handicap for optics on pistols and shotguns and ports on pistols and shotguns.  Two plate handicap for irons against scopes on the rifle.  If someone can remember please refresh my memory and then print it off and bring a copy of it with you to the match :)  Let me know if you have any more questions.  Should be fun!!

Adios,
TG

This is what you said in your original post re the handicaps.  Sounds good!
Life is hard.  It's harder if you're stupid and can't shoot straight.

Was out at the range tonight and it's slick... the snow that is there is hard crunchy and the ice... good call on not much movement.

It's going to be fun, and we should have a blast, but dress warm and bring a few hand warmers, you gonna need them.

See ya out there!

Luvy45,
How were the roads?  Bare or snow packed?

Roads going to and from the range are bare, so is the road going down to the gate at the range... after that... snow and ice and ruts...

Some that don't have 4wd may need a push or shove to get back out to the gate, but not to worry, I've seen the tow straps that Travis carry's.  ;D

It's all good though, global warming and all will have this all fixed in no time  :sarcon:

Hey Tgibson thanks for the offer, I will respectfully decline.  I am always a bit nervous borrowing guns, and with a pistol I have never fired I probably couldn't hit the broad side of barn anyway.  It is a very generous offer and just supports my desire to get more involved with the local shooting events knowing that there are great people who are as supportive as you and Jaggy13 have been to someone you haven't even met yet!

Now I have an even better reason to get a new pistol when the tax return gets in.  Are there restrictions on barrel length?  I would really like a glock 34.

Also it seems that most here have an AR for their rifle, I have a M14 are they accepted?

I hope to come out and watch the shoot and get some ideas on where I need to start practicing.

Thanks again

Rob

No worries.  You're going to regret it, but I understand.   ;D  Your M14 would work fine.  Basically any semi auto rifle.  Actually last year we had a guys shooting a bolt gun not doing half bad.  A Glock 34 would be a good shooter.  You could use it in a bunch of different disciplines.  See you tomorrow.

I have no idea how many shooters we are going to have out there tomorrow.  I don't think it will be over about 30 so we are all going to shoot on the same stage.  There will be no reset, so the only slow part will be the shooters getting their stuff together.  We'll have preload tables for the shotguns and I'm going to do my best to make the COF's exactly the same so we don't have to worry about switching sides each time.  If we stay after it, I still think we can get done by 14:00.
ekuo said he was going to set up a sidematch so that will break up a little of the slowness.  I was thinking something like five poppers and five flying clays...only stipulation is you have to shoot all five poppers first   We'll see.  See you all tomorrow...dress warm!!!

Five poppers with five flippers...and you have to take the poppers first?  Damn, that's upping the ante.  Glad I can get 10+1 after the start in my shotty...

I was thinking about something involving spinners... But open for just about anything.

Lets talk about it in the a.m.

Well we got another one in the books.  Made it out with no major issues and everyone seemed to have a good time.  I think the intermediate and expert shooters were done by about noon and the beginner shooters finished up around 15:00.
Before we get to the results (what I have anyway), I'd like to give a big shout out to ekuo, Chuck G, Jim S., Kaen E., Brian K. and one or two other guys for all their help setting up and tearing down.  They were a huge help and obviously, the match wouldn't have happened without them.  Thanks Gents.
So, here we have it.  I only remember the ones I paid out, because I was busy and forgot to get the score sheets.
Beginner:
5th Andy B
4th Tennille C
3rd Roy ?
2nd Aaron N
1st True P

Intermediate:
3rd I'm loosing it..  I can't think of this person right now.  Evans?  Help?
2nd Evans K
1st Bob H

Expert:
4th Mike Gibson
3rd Jim Sullivan
2nd Travis G
1st Kelly B

Adios,
TG

Intermidiate was:

4th - Brian K (you forgot that one :-)
3rd - Evans K
2nd - Bill L.
1st - Bob H.

It was a great match, good weather, and Mike G cooks a mean pot of mash and cornbread.

Great match by MGM!!!! Thanks Mike and Travis!

Yup, Bill took 2nd place in Intermediate.  I was third, which means I get to stay in Intermediate next year!  Top 2 of each class bump up, right?

Great match, awesome chilli, and thanks to MGM for hosting!

Photos from match up on Parma web site. I ran out of camera memory before I could make it over to the other squad shooting, so this is just the expert/intermidiate squad... if anyone has pics of the other squad or just more photos, get'm to me and I'll post them up on the web.

here's a little sample.

HAHA!!  Nice!  Thanks for doing a great job with the pics and scores over at the Parma site.  Next year we'll have the MGM Grand Nats under our belts so scoring and J ladders will be old hat.  We can then put those on the website.  Thanks again Brian.

Luvy45, thanks for posting the pics (and taking them!).  The only thing missing were any pictures of spit freezing before it hit the ground...

Any chance of getting copies of some of them?
