I'm shooting 230 grn Berry's plated bullets with 5.3 grns of W231, standard LP Primer, and an assortment of cases. I didn't chrono it but the book says it should be about 700 fps. I have it shooting about 2" moa offhand. I think it would be much better on a rest - but that's not bad I'm thinking.

What do the others who reload for this caliber use?

230gr Powerbond plated, 4.5gr of Titegroup... will get you right at power factor for major. If it's warm out.

Mixed case, CCI LG Primer.

I actually prefer Universal for the 45, very soft shooting powder at major power factor, but since I load 9mm, Titegroup proved to be a one stop powder for both. One 8lb jug will last you for around 12,000 rounds.

I've been shooting the same 5.5grn of Unique/200grn LSWC load for over 20years now. It should be a shade over 800fps even out of my short barreled Para P12. When I used to have a match type Gov't Model it would make 1 ragged hole outta 7 rounds at 25 yards off of sandbags.

+1 but i use 5 -5.5grns of unguie for almost everything 9mm 40s&w and 45acp

What kind of accuracy are you getting with the Powerbond bullets?  I use WST and switched from the Powerbonds to Missouri Bullets 230gr "softballs" and have achieved the accuracy I was after.  I could not get the Powerbonds to do better that 4" rested off a sandbag.  Thanks.

Never actually sat down and shot for accuracy with them... these are my IDPA bullets.

Cant' say I can complain, I made master shooting them out of my 5" 1911.

I'm currently running a Berry's 185gr HBRN with 9.1 of PowerPistol.  Its a little spicy, so its not a competition load.  Shoots good, good fireball, but not spicy enough to make me adjust my grip.
I was running 9.4gr of PowerPistol but those loads were way hot for everyday use..
They chrono'd out at 1180 fps out of my 6".

Going to try the Xtreme 185gr with 9.0 of PP here as soon as those bullets get here.

Like LuvMy45, my .45 load is for competition shooting. 

In the last two years, I've pretty much exclusively switched over to using moly coated 200 gr SWC's or 230 gr RN. 

Preferred load is 4.4 gr Clays (regular Clays) with the 200 gr MSWC's. 

For the 230, I worked up a load with 3.9 grs which also makes major PF.

With other powders, I've used WST, 231, and Bullseye with decent results.

200 LSWC:
WST: 4.7 to 4.9 grs
231:  5.7 grs
BE:  4.7 grs

Haven't shot plated or FMJ in a long time...

For the most part, I run the "Wilson" load in 45acp

Lasercast 200gr LSWC
4.6gr VV N310
Win LP primers
Sorted brass gives and SD of 4fps for 10 rounds
Mixed brass and it's up to 5fps

It is a one 1" type load at the 25yd line.

In a 5" gun it's running in the 850 -890fps range depending on the barrel.

CCi and Fed primers drop the velocity a bit and increases the SD to the low teens.

I've loaded 4.2gr to 4.6gr and it is an accurate, consistent performer.

I have actually seen this combo turn a Glock into an accurate shooter. 




I've run W231, WSF, AA5 and Titegroup under 230 plated and jacketed and 200 lswc of various makes.

A few loads.

Accurate #2 at 5.4gr, Federal or CCI, 230 grain plated. Shooting this out of a Sig220, and it's "okay."

WST at 4.0gr, Federal, 230 grain plated. I really like this one out of every 45 I own. I reload 9mm, too, and WST (and WSF before) are fantastic.

Those are range/plinking/whatever rounds. For gaming this year I will use WSF, Federal, mixed brass and a 200gr RN moly from Bear Creek. And maybe try some Xtreme 200gr rn in the next group buy.

230 grain RN plated (I'm not brand specific, but have had good luck with Berry's)
I use mixed brass, but no nickel (stop by for a beer sometime and I'll tell you why)
I also used whatever primers are on sale--Currently CCI
I wrap all that around 5 grains of Bullseye

Specs out to around 800 fps and I have no problem hitting what needs hit out to about 30 yards.

Thanks all - it seems I'm in the ball park with what others are shooting. I'm not a competition shooter so power factor doesn't mean much to me. I am a non-victim shooter. I simply want what I hit to fall down as quickly as possible. Hopefully I'll never have to see that happen again but I want it to work.

The load I'm using is a pretty nice one I think for me. The pistol comes back to center quickly and with little effort, holds a good group that matches the sight picture (maybe a tad low), and isn't going to kill me with powder costs. But my 231 is going to run out and I have some Titegroup that my son gave me to supplant it.

So thanks for the info! I just love this group of shooters -

You'll notice that titegroup is a little more "punchy" than 231, it takes a little getting used to, but if you've been shooting 231 for a while, you will notice the differnce, kinda makes it feel a little more powerful than Clays or 231.

Now I have to ask... you reloading for self defense here? If so we may have to dredge up some previous post's on why that's a bad idea... hate to see someone get sunk by handloads in a court of law
