Before KTVB put out the story, I saw an article about these pigs in early 2010 that reported they thought the pigs were brought over here by the truckloads in 2008 or 2009.  If that's correct and the way they can reproduce, i'm betting there's way more than 50 pigs out there...so anyone want to go on a hunt?  Have any of you gone out looking for them?

What Idaho Fish and Game Say About Feral Hog Hunting:

Sounds like all you need is a hunting license (and, of course, a large caliber weapon).

Anyone gone out looking for pigs?  If I see any, I'll make sure to post here, because I want these things gone WAY more than I want to protect any sort of pig honey-hole.

Fish and Game has a policy in place to shoot on sight.......
They were trapped and chased by dogs to stop them from
getting a foot hold....

News from a few days shows they haven't gotten them all yet; they setup game cameras.  Hopefully they start baiting in addition to trapping.

I'm with you there.  Take a GPS and post pics and coords so others can follow up.

Don't forget, they are good eating too.
An ole friend of mine used to go to Arkansas each spring to hunt on a friends property.
Just field dress, pack'em in ice and put'em in your deep freeze.
No cheaper meat.
Just cook'em real good, like we ought to do to all pork.

I suggest you skin a piggy before you throw it in your freezer.  Later, when you're ready to make chops, ribs, roasts and bacon, you'll find it much easier than if you have to thaw said piggy and then skin it.  That is a chore!!   ;D

A couple of good, sharp knives are a must.

Nothing like good fresh pig meat.   ;)

How gamey is the meat though?

Pit roasting, or roasting over a fire, it's almost like eating steak. not gamey at all.

GRAY WOLF - "How gamey is the meat though?"

Obviously I've not eaten any feral piggies from Idaho, but I have a couple times when I lived in Calif.  There, where we were in San Luis Obispo county, the wild hogs feed a lot on grains from the frmers fields, etc., and the meat was as good as any  pork I've eaten.

A good friend of mine in east Texas kills lots of them and he told me that they generally taste very good, unless they have been eating nothing but acorns from a a large oak mast crop.  The meat then, is kinda bitter, so he says.

I do know one thing: if you shoot a wild piggy, gut that pig and get that skin off, and cool it down as soon as possible.  The meat should be quite good.

Talked to Owyhee county dispatch today 5/15/11 no reports of wild pig in Owyhee county because "we don't have any here".
