Hyper-realism used for battle training
« on: November 28, 2010, 08:23:54 PM »
Interesting video (about 12 minutes or so) about the use of incredibly realistic training for our guys in the sandbox.  Even the guys who have toured Iraq have said as much.

It's referred to as hyper-realism, and serves as a vital training scenario for the troops.  Even down to the buildings, the middle eastern street vendors, etc.

Check it out!

(BTW - I replaced the "tt" in the link above so that it wouldn't load the player automatically here on the BS site, which takes a long time to load. Just replace the link address with "tt".)

That is awesome!  I would like to see something like that for LE.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice, for I am a hunter,
And I must have my freedom.

Funny you should mention that.  ;D

I have a few friends in pyrotechnics, I was thinking about creating training programs for such a thing.

Great training. BUT for me now, I think that it would be a little too realistic.

A short story for you all - back in the early 80s when us Vietnam Vets were trying to get some things changed with our Govt and the local populace we were going to participate in the Veteran's Day parade - yes you guessed it - as a Combat patrol. We had lots of men with no legs and arms and pieces and parts missing. So what we were going to do was have this patrol going along the parade route. At random times there would be an explosion and one of the guys would be screaming and hollaring while their leg/arm/whatever was laying a few feet away from them. Ketchup, as blood, splattered everywhere, and on the crowd, by the explosion, with cries of "Medic Medic" and such.

And where the TV cameras were it was going to be an all out free for all. Think we were going to have fun? Unfortunately the parade officials found out, we were ratted out, and our request to march was denied. Can you frickin imagine?? And now you know the rest of the story -  :)
