1911 Centennial Shoot & BBQ- Any interest?
« on: November 16, 2010, 09:44:24 PM »
Ladies and gentleman,

I am considering a match for 2011 in honor of JMB 1911 and it's 100 year anniversary.

I am floating the idea and seeing how many of you would be interested. I do not have a date yet, sometime in 2011, spring or summer quarter probably.

This would be at the Parma Rod and Gun Club and here is the gist of the shoot.

Stages: combination steel challenge, man on man, IDPA, USPSA type stages, 6 to 8 stages total.
Lunch provided
Find a few local vendors to throw in some prizes.

Rules: 1911, single stack only, maybe even .45 only

Winner is the Top 1911 shooter in Idaho!

There is also talk of having a 30-06 long range shoot after lunch or something to celebrate the 105 year of the introduction of that caliber as a fun side match.

So, that's the idea, anyone think this would be fun? beside me?

Thanks

I might even be up for this one.  ;)
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

Sounds like a great idea. I'll show.

This sounds like something you could make really big.
I haven't heard of anything like this yet for next year?
You should invite the 1911 manufacturers, and maybe even get some big prizes to handout?

Just a thought, but sounds like your on to something  ;)

Can I run my Para if I download the mags? Seems kinda silly to limit it to single stacks only.

FJ - Not sure on that... I would like to limit it to single stack, 1911 .45 only guns, no optics, 8 round mag limit, maybe even 7 rounds, still fleshing that out.

I don't want to exclude people, but at the same time, I really want to keep it 1911 single stack only. I'll see what kind of feedback I'm feeling.

I'm looking for a date now, I was thinking of kinda keeping this a local Idaho/eastern oregon event, so we'll see how much interest we get and how far it goes.

So plan on something in 2011 to celebrate the 1911!

This is a really good excuse for me to get the 1911 I've been wanting  Sounds like fun, I'm in as long as I can come up with one by then.

What difference does it make as long as mag capacity is kept the same? It's a 1911 in all other respects, or is there some advantage to having a short fat grip frame that I'm not aware of?

This sounds like it would be a lot of fun!  Both for the 1911 and the '06.  I guess I better learn how to do these sorts of shoots!

Maybe two classes ???

1) 5", 1911 single stacks in .45, with standard magazine lengths.

2) Double stacks and other barrel configurations (covers length and other calibers)

Sounds more reasonable to me. Specially since I've got a 3.5" barrel too. 2 reasons to be excluded ::)

I've got a couple of 5" guns. In the event that you can't use yours, I've got you covered.

I think what he is trying to do is to commemorate the anniversary by allowing only guns as they were originally made.  If that is the case then it should be no mods like trigger work just your basic from the factory gun.  Or you could have the factory class, then everything else like the double stacks, 9mm, .38 supers, and highly modifieds.

9mm and .38 Super are factory.  So are the Gold Cups.  It would seem much easier to select caliber and capacity as the distinguishing features.

I appreciate that RG. You are always offering up your guns for me to shoot. I'm gonna take you up on it again one of these days. I really enjoyed the time I spent behind your LRTR rig. ;D

You would be putting your man card in jeapordy by not blasting away at something.

My preference is for a single stack .45 1911A1 type firearm, don't care about the barrell length.

There are plenty of us around that have 1911's and I know I don't mind peoplel shooting mine, just bring some ammo.

I'm not wanting to exclude people, I want to acknowledge JMB classic 1911 design that has stood the test of time, and for the most part, is basically unchanged except for minor items since it's inception. I don't want to start a debate about 1911 vs 2011 vs double stack, etc... and I don't want to have a debate about a defensive vs tactical vs training vs bad training type of shooting competition. I want to have a fun match, that has a lot of 1911's, and maybe even hand out a few cool prizes, eat a few burgers or what not, shoot a 30-06 for dessert and know that I'm hanging out with a bunch of like minded guys and gals in this screwed up politcially too correct world.

So it sounds like you guys would enjoy it, so I'll start asking around the local gunshops (except one) and see what kind of little prizes I can round up, Pops has already said he's in, so I've got a start. I'll find a date that hopefully works with most everyone's schedule and we'll have ourselves some fun with the slab side.

Oh, almost forgot, yeah you can come for just the BBQ, but you'll wish you came with some ammo and/or gun. :-)

I'm in tentatively. Work schedule will dictate so sooner you can get the date out there the better. RG, I'll take you up on the loaner, got plenty of ammo. Got several ought sixes too, are there gonna be limitations on these too? Don't have an M1, but got an old Rem 721 if vintage is a must, or there is the stainless Ruger 77 MkII, or Rem 700 ADL (really the wife's).

You want to see a man card in jeopardy?

I'd have to borrow my wifes 1911, and it's chambered in 9mm...

Edit to add: Now the wife wants to go... I'm doomed.
