Silvadene Burn Cream (Silver sulfadiazine)
« on: October 26, 2010, 01:40:19 PM »
Just FYI to those of you who want to add something to your First Aid Kit. Silvadene (Silver Sulfadiazine)  is a a good cream for treating burns, this stuff works good, but normally requires a prescription to get.

there is an alternative to get it without a prescription, and is sold as a vet treatment for pets, but it's the same stuff and can be ordered on Amazon. A definite must have for your First Aid Preps.

Another option is Bacitracin. It is often used instead Silver Sulfadiazine in many burn centers and is available without an Rx. Silvadene can increase healing times and it sometimes discolors the skin. Silvadene does have excellent antimicrobial properties. If you do use it, you may want to avoid the face, especially if you have darker skin. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
