Aguilla hypersonic 30 gr .22 LR
« on: October 11, 2010, 02:00:31 PM »
Has anyone else shot any Aguilla .22 ammo ?  I bought a brick of the 30 gr "hypersonic" stuff thinking it was going to shoot better than the bulk Federal stuff I normally shoot.   I took the ole Remington 597 out and put some shots on paper.  Well I shot about 100 rounds of Federal and 50 rounds of the Aguilla and the Federal definitely shot better, and costs 1/2 as much. My 4 best 10 shot groups (+/- 1 flyer) with the Federal were about 1/2 the size of the single best Aguilla group.. :(
Plus the Aguilla didn't even seem to fly flatter, which I expected since the ammo was supposed to be faster and lighter.

Has anyone else had any luck with this stuff?

I get my best groups using CCI standard velocity ammo in the .22

I plink with whatever is cheapest and have a bunch of mixed brand stuff.

For precision .22 rifle work, the subsonic and Standard velocity work best for me.

I'm using a 10/22.

It's been my experience that standard velocity rimfire ammo typically shoots more accurately than any of the hypervelocity stuff. At least in my guns.

I shoot a lot of the bulk Fed is 36 gr high velocity like the 550 box stuff for killing sage rats and plinking but I think you will find the 40gr standard velocity stuff will shoot the best.
I've had good luck with in no particular order.
American Eagle 40gr solid AE5022
Fed Auto Match 40 gr solid AM22
CCI Blazer 40gr solid
Wolf Match Target 40 gr solid
SK Standard Plus 40 gr solid

If it's a MKIII make sure your remove the LCI and the mag disconnect. Takes about 10 minutes and mine seems to work great.

I pretty much did this to my gun...
http://www.perfectunion.com/vb/showthread.php?t=68671

including the shave and a haircut part...

couple of washers, little bit of filing and the mag dissconnect is gone... cheap and I've got 1500+ rounds through it as well since without a hitch.

The loaded chamber indicator is a source of jams as well, leave the plastic but remove the metal piece.

Pull the spring on the detent for the slide release so that it just flops around... with a mag in it's tight and you can sling shot the bolt with a full mag.

I have heard although I haven't run into it yet that there is a tweak to the mag lips if feeding remains a problem.
