Trail Cams
« on: October 01, 2010, 01:38:40 PM »
Have any of you guys used a trail camera?  I'm thinking of getting one for use on my property by Idaho City.  I don't know how the different types work.  I'm thinking the "Flash" ones flash at night just like a regular camera.  What do the IR ones do?  Are they a visible red light?  I really would like one that would take stills at night or even short video at night in a stealth mode that would not be noticable to people that might be coming onto my property.  Any thoughts or recommendations?

For people you better plan on IR.  I sold one recently that was IR and had an IR flash.  Maybe the buyer will comment on how it worked for him.

Thank you!  Would be interested in whether the ir is visible to people at night.  Purchaser, comments about use and results, please?  Others also!

IR wouldn't be visible unless they had some type of NV equipment.  Outside of that, normal digital cameras also have varying sensitivity to IR, but cams with night shot or similar low light sensors would light up your trail cam like a flare.

A friend of mine just showed me his IR Trail cam results, a week ago.
The photos were pretty clear, but looked like the depth of the photo was only 30 or 40 ft?
He used them for Bear hunting, He put out Bait Barrels and used the Cams to show him which can had Bears?
He got a pretty big bear that way, it tasted pretty good too ;-)
