Armscor builds some of the STI's not sure about the others.
The ones I've seen looked ok.

Looks like some of the Charles Daly's to up to 2008

yessir, that is correct, the Plip steel is just too soft over the long run IF you shoot hot and heavy loads all the time, the new Spartan by STI is in 9mm and with the right springs and such should last pretty well. The Spartan is also up to STI spec's while the RIA and the lot are done to base mil spec.
when I say alot of shooting I mean over a thousand rounds a month, if your not shooting a couple hundred a month these guns are golden. I am very picky from a design and materials standpoint. I have also seen and worked on first hand these guns. the holes, the tolerences, the pins, the accuracy and consistency are just not up to colt, S/armory, Kimber quality....But....not at the price either.. ::)

the spartan in 45 has been out for a few year lots of good reiviews of them
really tempted by th 9mm version 625 seems like a good price for them

but when you talk about the steel do you meen the internals or slide /frame?
have heard about some of the gts not being the greatest but those can be an easy fix
if its the slide frame is it really the steel or the looser tolerances letting it beat its self up ? a few extra .0001s of clearance can really let things pound toghether

Spartan internals are made buy STI and shipped to Amscor to be assembled and reinspected in the U.S. by STI for fit and finish.
The Spartan’s slide is made from extruded bar stock; the frame is cast as is many 1911 clones.
My last three 1911 purchases where Kimbers and I will not buy another, but I would consider a Spartan, just my 2 cents.

Pop's

On the Spartan that you tested was the frame 28-HRC and the slide 42-HRC as mention in this article?

Good find J Mack, glad STI is putting out the guns like that, I was talking about slide and frame only and based my experience just on the Charles Daly guns, since that was the question.  ;)
