Chest rig
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:58:07 PM »
I am looking at getting micro or small size chest rig, something like the tactical tailor mini mav.

Does anyone in the area carry anything like this that i can go put my hands on and take a look at?

I have a mini-mav, if you want to swing by pizza or pot-luck, drop me a PM and I'll bring it.  I also think Jeff has (had?) a maxped chest rig at the shop that looked pretty much the same size as the minimav.  I'll post some pictures once I get un-lazy.

Yea, I have one of the new Maxpedition chest rigs at the shop.  I am waiting on a new Specter Gear .308 chest rig.  Multicam of course.

When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice, for I am a hunter,

I like the SKD rig but I want to be able to change it up, like some shotgun cards like these  http://www.tacticaltailor.com/shotgunhorizontal6rdpanel.aspx  for bunny busting or M4 pouches for more bunny busting  ;D  but yet still be light and out of the way for me to draw my handgun from my belt.

I will be out of town for the next pot luck and don't regularly make it to Boise during the weekday for pizza  :-[ ... I will have to swing by and check out what you have down there at the shop Jeff.

scarecrow- do you find that the mini mav is sometimes to small?

I like the OSOE (Original SOE) Micro rigs myself...
They make specifics or just a PALS for your own set up.

I really like those shotgun shell pouches 2 of those and i would be in business for 3 gun, bunnies, and anything else.  ;D

The OSOE gear is a little out of my price range but damn does it look like some good stuff.

after some looking around and reading some reviews and checking some prices ( i didn't realize some stuff was that expensive)  i think i have narrowed it down to a couple items

http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/Mini-Tactical-Chest-Rig-62p1457.htm

http://www.lapolicegear.com/tactical-gear-modular-vest.html

http://www.tacticaltailor.com/minimav.aspx

at first i didn't want mag pouches permanently affixed but after looking at all the PALS on the maxpedition rig i kinds like that setup the most so far.

Understandable. I know SOE is expensive, $55 for the the micro PALS is a bit steep.
If it weren't for the quality and the reputation of the the company....or the fact that I'm a complete nylon whore, I'd
probly not be buying their gear either. They have some well thought out designs though.

I'm saving my pennies religiously for one of the Mookie PALS rigs, it's $165 and just some PALS webbing and an H harness  :-X ....ouch!

If I were you, I'd go down to Sawtac and look at the Maxpedition. It is a nice little rig.
If you don't like that, go with the Tactical Tailor. The quality is outstanding there too.

If you want to see an example of the Condor rig like lapolicegear has.  I can bring one to the gunshow this weekend.  It is my own personal rig, but if you need one in a hurry I would be willing to part with it (it's tan).  Otherwise I can order one in for you (won't have to pay shipping as I need to place an order anyway).

Let me know.

scarecrow- do you find that the mini mav is sometimes to small?

I just need something to haul an extra mag or two, or maybe something I can "grab and go" with.  My mini-mav is set up with a Spec-Ops IFAK and two TT single mag shingles.  Depending on what I'm doing I may change those two shingles for an OSOE 2x2 pouch (Rallyman?  DA Gen II?) that ups my mag capacity to 4.

Even whatever crazy scenario I use to justify my purchase of things branded with the word "tactical" I'm not burning more then 90 rounds. So, smaller rig = less chance of me loading it up with things I'll never need/use.

OSOE stuff is as advertised: bomb proof, and made in America.  OSOE stuff is also smart.  Those guys put a lot of thought into the way they make things.
TT stuff is made in America as well, but not half as over-built as OSOE.  Maxped is the opposite of TT stuff: over-built as hell but stitched in Taiwan.
