POST FALLS, Idaho -- Authorities say more than 200 guns have been stolen from a Kootenai County woman's home.

The woman reported the robbery on Friday. On Monday, Kootenai County sheriff's officials were still assessing the value of the stolen weapons.

Authorities say a U.S. Springfield field grade M1 rifle was valued at $50,000 alone.

Other weapons taken from the home west of Coeur d'Alene include two Glock 19 pistols, one Doc Holiday pistol, and several Remington and Harvefter rifles.

An Olympic Arms rifle, featuring stainless steel bull barrel, and a U.S. optic scope was also stolen.

Maj. Ben Wolfinger says it's the biggest weapons heist the sheriff's department has seen.

Is this the same story? http://referer.us/www.ktvb.com/news/Gun-heist-is-gaining-new-attention-one-year-later-100994104.html

Some of the details are different but the rest sounds very much the same.  There's video at the link above.

COEUR D'ALENE-- A North Idaho gun heist is gaining new attention one year after the break in. One Coeur d’Alene couple claims someone took off with 200 guns. Now there are new details that could help police crack the case.

A number of very valuable guns were stolen from a family back in 2009. The reason we’re just now hearing about it, the owners finally came forward with some of the serial numbers for the guns.

The guns were taken from a home in Coeur d’Alene.  At that time, 40 guns were listed as stolen on the police report. Richard Culver, a retired Marine, owned the guns along with his wife Gloria. Just last week, the couple found serial numbers for 15 of the guns.

At this time, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office does not have a suspect in the case. They will have to go back and track those numbers to see if they have been sold in pawn shops or someplace else. When Gloria Culver contacted the sheriff’s office with the serial numbers last week, she said that 200 guns were stolen, not the 40 first reported. The sheriff’s office says at this time the number of guns stolen has not been confirmed. One of the guns listed as stolen is worth $50,000.

This is still an active investigation and authorities say it’s helpful to have the serial number from the guns.

I hope they had a big rider

must have been a gas trap Garand for 50k

on a Garand side note:

I did a job today for a fellow that could have been old enough to be a WWII vet, his garage is a woodworking shop, I was there to remove an old water softener, but to get to it I had to move wood (obviously) a freezer, boxes, more wood & molding ect to get to it.  behind the softener is a Garand covered in dust.  wow i say, lets move this so it doesn't get hurt.

He picks it up and I was waiting for the "Oh, I forgot about this old girl, a smile, or something but He just lays it against another pile of scrap & doesn't blink an eye?

I'm going back for a water heater replacement tomorrow, I think I'll drill him on the gun if it's still out there & see if he wants to deal ;D
I can't hear you over the sound of my own awesomeness.
